Under chassis & teflon coatings definitely help but are not necessarily required (any car).  If one can afford an extra 5K or so (for both), one should go for it, and preferably straightway after buying the car.

My car has some minor scratches. Will teflon coating remove the minor scratches that are already present?

On the contrary, it will become apparantly more visible after the teflon coating.

Under Chassis coating and teflon coating do help to a certain extent. How much do they help is quite dependant on how the car itself is being maintained.

Well, one cannot compare the situation here in India with several other countries - because we always have something with us in India - extreme weather and dust.

I went for the first service of my car and the mechanic has spotted some small black spots on the car - this was bitumen particles that found their way onto the car. Mechanic has asked me if I have done a taflon coating - I said yes and then he said that he will take care of them by washing the car with diesel - and it worked. Mechanic has further stated that the spots could be taken off only because teflon has ensured that it doesn't stick to the car permanently. So, I would based on this experience say that teflon coating helps. Same is the case with the under body coating - it also helps.

Why teflon doesn't help - we have very bad practice when it comes to cleaning our vehicles - a car is supposed to be sprayed with water and dried with pressurised air (like it is done in showrooms). But, on a daily basis, we end up scratching the surface with all our strength using an wet old cloth - it is a wrong practice - cloth is a very rough surface and hence results in the teflon coating getting scratched.

The best approach then is to use news papers - spray little quantities of water on the car and then use a newspaper (which is a much smoother surface) and very delicately wipe the surface with it.

This way the teflon coating is less scratched and the coating has a much longer life.

To find out the difference of cleaning with cloth and a newspaper, try doing it first on a glass surface - you will be amazed that the glass will turn out to be much cleaner ans shiny with the newspaper. It is because of the same reason as explained above.

Also - Use a fine water spray on the car (like the one used in Saloons and don't dump half a bucket of water with full force on the car.

K Prasad

Teflon coating acutally protects your car from very minor scratches, and gives your car a wet-shiny look that lasts for not more than 2 years.  Under-coating gives good protection to the bottom/base of the car that is exposed to lots of dust/mud & water.  Both would cost around 5K.

if it is Teflon coated surface and if you get any stains, it will be washed without any problem. Teflon is DuPont company product where I work. More details can be drawn in DuPont website.

True, teflon is basically a polish but has much better longevity - almost 2 years if the recommended subsequent coat/s are applied.. Besides, it also gives a little protection from minor scratches.
