Transferring my bike and car from Bangalore to Pune

7.5% tax is irrespective whether the vehical is old or new. Based on vehicle's age u get a bit of discount... I had to pay aprox 25K as tax for car and about 7K for the bike...

The road tax paid Bangalore (for that matter any RTO) can be re-imbursed if we personally go to Bangalore RTO and go through the ordeal of trying to get money from the Govt ....If you know what I mean .....

Hi, Vikrant Thanks for all this detailed information. But really it is very _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ for indian Gov. That we are living in India and we get so much stupid problems for shifting only in India.And also we don't get any of this information when webuy the vehicle. RTO at least provide all this information when someone buys a vehicle, but these things go un addressed.

Yes, if the vehicle is transferred to another state, life-time / advance road tax paid is reimbursed on pro-rata basis after deducting the tax for the no. of years the vehicle is used in that particular state. The procedure is lengthy & painful but worth undergoing for getting our hard earned money back.

I am really impressed on seeing this site. I saw it for the first time. Is there any idea whether Permit can be issued for a temporary period by RTO.

In my case, I have to stay for about 15 months in Mumbai & I want to use my car in Mumbai. My car is registered in Ahmedabad.

To my understanding, normally there is no need to get permit etc. for using your (private) car in Mumbai (other city/state), as you will be using it for a temporary period.  There is no restriction on such use & it's not an uncommon thing.  You can explain so to the traffic police & give evidence that you haven't relocated to Mumbai, and that, you are a resident of Ahmedabad and come to Mumbai often for work.
