Skoda India Plan Five Cars In Two Years

Skoda India Just Celebrated 10 Years In India

Skoda in India is currently surviving on four cars models which are the Fabia, Laura, Superb and the Yeti.  While the Fabia, Laura and Superb are doing reasonably well, the Yeti with its small size and a hatchback look did not really catch the Indian eye which equates an SUV to sheer size and road presence.

In the coming two years, however, Skoda plans to introduce five cars in all major segments. First there will be a sub Fabia model (which may be called the Skoda Youngster) which will be Skoda’s attempt to enter the mass market. Skoda will also enter the entry level sedan segment with its Rapid, which is essentially a VW Vento derivative.  Being a Skoda the new sedan is expected to be priced below the VW and will feature the same built and ride quality which Skoda offers on all its cars.

An overhauled Laura is also expected to make an entry in a month or two no idea though what Skoda is planning to the new Laura will it be a minor facelift or an engine transplant. Skoda also plans a mini Yeti which can be the Skoda Fabia Scout which will be equipped with 4 x 4 and will have a higher ground clearance.

I guess, no auto company can dare to miss turn over happening in price range of 3 - 4.5 lakh.

Alto sales around 30,000 + units, and there are 6 other cars who manage to cross 9,000 units per month. They are i10, Wagon R, Swift, Dzire and Indica and Nano. Even Indigo CS sales around 7000 - 8000 units per month.

Key players here are Maruti, Hyundai & Tata.

I am sure that other companies like Ford, VW, Skoda, Honda, Toyota, Nissan would like to be player in this segment.

New trend in Indian entry level segment is - low kerb weight, 1 - 1.2 litre engine, FE figure of 18 kmpl and comfortable sitting for 4.

Driving is privilage, not a right.
