Hello

I am planning to buy Fluidic Verna, but am unable to choose between petrol or diesel (I am aware of pros and cons of both) - and option to fit CNG kit will decide which one I will choose. I know that petrol engine can be fitted with CNG, but can diesel engine also be fitted with CNG? If yes, I am likely to choose diesel.

I wanted to know how much that it will cost (is there anything like RTO approved kit? If yes, which brand is the best one), the best dealers in Hyderabad who can do it. And how about stations in Hyderabad where CNG is filled? Are there any yet?

Also are there any disadvantages with CNG apart from losing boot space and pickup? What will be the possible maintenance costs?

Hi

I would always recommend a company fit CNG however Fluidic has not launched a vehicle with CNG option hence would recommend you not to convert to CNG after buying it , Wait for at least an year then you choose to change it . RTO will not approve! Insurance claims will not be feasible; you will get in to a mess. Personal opinion I took a test drive  and apart from the looks I have not liked anything about Fluidic , Bucket seats ( Long drive will have back pain ) Rear seats very low and option given for only two passengers . Getting in and out little difficult. Highway beyond 100+kms you get scary as steering is very sensitive does not hold on to the ground. If you want to just see the difference take a test drive on Fiat Linea and Fluidic you will come to know yourself. Linea 140+ no fear however Fluidic 100+ you will count your age!

Currently no authorised kits are available for the car. I assume you are new to the automobile world, and hence you are of the confsion. Let me sort it out, there is actually no practical advantage of using CNG in a diesel car. I would strongly suggest the diesel against petrol+CNG(later). Costwise, you will pay for the kit, so why not pay a bit extra for the diesel?

Hi all

Thanks for your replies, but still my questions are unanswered.

1. Is it possible to convert a diesel engine to CNG? If yes, after conversion is it only CNG that can be used to run the vehicle? or is there an option of using either of the fuels?

2. Does the company has to provide the option of CNG on a vehicle? is it not at the discretion of the owner to convert to CNG? I understand that the warranty will be void if converted within 1 year.

3. How much a RTA approved CNG kit will cost? I assume it is approx. 40k, is it? Any CNG filling stations in Hyd yet (question specifically for Hyd natives)?

Sankalp - I see your point, but after some years when the running costs of diesel breaks even with petrol, then having CNG would be advantageous.

Mathew - As suggested, I will test drive Linea too. But just to let you know, I am more worried about the after sales service and service network rather than the highway handling. I agree with your point on the rear seat discomfort, I have even written to Hyundai about it, but apparently there is no immediate change to it.

1. It is. But rarely done. Both fuels can be used after cnversion. However, in the modern day diesel engine, I am not sure of its impact to the diesel injection components.

2. As of now no. Maybe in the near future you may have a CNG variant. But CNG conversion will void all warranties on the car.

3. Yes. It depends upon the kit. A sequential kit costs more than the amount you have quoted. Again not sure if anyone really converts a diesel car into cng.

I guess running costs of diesel will be on the lesser side compared to petrol even if both the price of petrol and diesel are equalised, as a diesel gives very high mileage compared to its petrol counterpart.

deisel vehicle cannot be  converted on  CNG , AND pick up is not a problem in cng now days , timming advancer increases the  pickup   almost  like petrol.
