Hi All,

Could you please tell me the maximum speed that a Maruti Omni can attain without any stability problem. I heard that it is very dangerous driving it above 60-65 kmph and not very suitable on highways. Please reply.....

Hi,

I am having one since 1997. The ideal speed for Omni on highways is around 80 kmpl. Though I have given it a run at 120 kmpl too (on NH7 - which is 4 lane road with road divider for two way traffic). The breaking, as complained by many people, is little weaker. But the new Omni is fitted with Disc brakes. So this problem is also taken care.

As regarding shifting of the centre of gravity due to tallnes, it will be taken care at the speed on 80 kmpl. It does not have AC. So open all the windows on highways. Closing all the windows MAY wobble the vehicle.

Surely the omni is unsstable on the highway due to its height and body construction. My father had his omni which he used to cruise at around 80-90 but he has managed to top 110 on NH7 near bangalore. But it is a risk to cross 85kmh in an omni

Better not take this vehicle for highway travels. It is a Tin box death trap in cases of impact, as the body is very flimsy. The suspension and driver seat comfort is horrible, and the controls require constant struggle to operate (esp. the obstinate gear lever).

I used it just to go 50 km out on state highways (Pune to Kolwan) and I was exhausted. If at all, have it driven by someone who is used to drive this vehicle on long stretches.
