As per my learning, in general any Carnauba wax(like turtle wax) gives a better shine than any polymer type wax(collinite 845). If this is true. Is it ok to use a combination of both. If so, in what manner/order do I apply both. I presumed from my own understanding that the turtle wax is to be applied first and then once it sorta becomes bonded to the surface(may be in half a day), I can then later on apply the collinite 845 over it for a long retention.

But the question is generally taking Bangalore's climate into consideration, how long do each of them survive and protect the surface individually.

To remove swirls, a cutting compound is used. Depending upon the severity of swirls and other defects, the degree of cutting compound is varied. This removes a layer of paint or clearcoat along with the swirls, exposing a fresh and clean layer. This layer is then protected by sealing and waxing. A sealant is a professional product and depending upon the brand etc, they have their own methods of application and curing. As i dont use such products, i cant comment upon it. Once waxed, the beading effect stays for upto three months or even more, with the car being washed without soap twice a week.

Visited 3m car care for paint sealant programme for my WR. As usual, service was excellent and the result was excellent. The car was washed, clayed, polished using compound. After that the sealant was applied and rubbed off. The surface has got a butter-like smoothness and everytime I pass by the car, its nice to feel the surface. Worth the 2.2k I paid. Also, purchased two wash mittens from a supermarket at 60 each. Havent tried it out.

I have also bought wash mitten from MK Retail i think for 40Rs. Have not used it with water but have used it for general cleaning as I was out on a trip to Bandipur yesterday and day before. So used it to clean the car yesterday morning and it was pretty good and easy to clean.

BTW, my Riz is giving me 13.6 in the city with AC on around 50% of the time and yesterday on the highway, I got 18kmpl with AC on for around 80% of the time. Earlier I had reported a mileage of 11 in the city which was wrong as I was not using the correct method for measuring the mileage.

Since you are one among the many from whom I have learned a lot of DIY detailing stuff. I would like to know, what extent of difference have you got by taking your car to 3M car care instead of DIY.

See, the main intention of taking it to 3M car care is to get the sealant applied. The product is not easily available outside and also, it is more of a professional product than waxing. So, as the vehicle is new, I took it to the hands of professionals and from now, I will wax it or get it waxed by my housekeeping staff on a regular basis, so that the sealant will last for some time.

Except for the sealant, I would have done it myself. Also, as the car is new, there is no difference to the gloss or finish. It is just the feel that has changed. Will post pictures to let you know yourself. Also, even my other cars do not show much difference after any detailing because - They are relatively free from swirls compared to other cars in the road. Whoever takes care of its washing is educated about safe washing and they adhere to those lessons while washing. Even my nine year old omni had a rich shine during the point of selling. So do all my cars. THey are not totally swirl free, but have very less.

But a badly maintained surface will give wonderful results after some buffing and waxing. So, the effect any detailing has on your car depends upon how bad the surface is before.

What brand of sealant is used by 3M which you don't get outside.

As such I did a thorough wash of my car and waxed it on sunday. Took around 4 and half hours. I actually over washed it which took so much of time and got me too tired.

  1. First did a dry dusting using static duster with almost negligible pressure.
  2. Then took water from the underground tank with a rope and bucket to soft water.(since all the taps at the ground floor have a supply of water which is a mixture of both borewell water and cauvery water)
  3. splashed the car with plain water using a mug.
  4. Then used Eureka Forbes Vacuum cleaner's blower attached with a sprayer to spray plain water.
  5. Then filled the sprayer with water mixed with Formula 1 - Carnauba Wash & Wax Shampoo
  6. Followed the 2 bucket method. 1 with F1 shampoos and water and the other with plain water for rinse. Used a wash mitt to wash the car.
  7. Then used the Vacuum cleaner's blower to blow of the water on the car. This was indeed too useful, those inner regions which were out of reach and are filled with water too could be dried. This dried almost 97% of the water.
  8. Then dried the remaining 3% of the water droplets using sonax's synthetic chamois.
  9. Since this was the first time, I did not do claying.
  10. Now started waxing the car using turtle super hard shell wax (bought from a nearby accessory shop) using the buffing pad that came along with it.
  11. Then allowed the wax to dry till haze. Cross checked the drying, by removing the wax using finger and saw to it that the wax is not smearing.
  12. Then removed the haze off using a microfiber cloth and buffed with same cloth. I could not buff it too much since I was too tired.

They use products which are provided to them directly by 3M and they dont sell such products nor is it available in the retail market.

Looks like you are taking wonderful care of your car! Keep it up. On the other hand, I am getting fed up with F1 liquid wax somehow. It doesnt seem to last. Also, repeated applications in order to layer it might not be good as it has micro abrasives. So now on the lookout for pure wax so that I can apply multiple layers whenever I want.

Think you hae to work on the machine thing or else this will take up a lot of energy!

Oh fine. So its confined to 3M car care.

Actually I did come across some not so good reviews about F1 wax, it could by chance be your post itself somewhere at CW. So I did not buy the F1 wax. I rather got the turtle super hard shell wax.

All I got was the F1 shampoo. I have put in an image of the container of that F1 shampoo in our PM conversation.

Yeah I need to get this machine thing done asap.
