Hi guys,

Recently I saw a man cleaning  some stain on his car with petrol. So, my question is does using petrol damage the paint of the car?

Apart  from this, I would also like to know, how can i give my car a bright shine  ( A shine like  after servicing a car)? What can I use? And what can be used to give the black exterior plastics (Windshield water drain beading) a shine?

Using petrol/diesel to remove very tough stains can be ok, as thats quite the only way out. But for simple stains, its better to stay away from such method. Though using other methods may be tough, its easy on the paint surface. Stains such as tar, paint etc can be removed using diesel. As far as possible, the cleaning agent must be applied to the stain area carefully and not just rub the entire surrounding.

There are many threads related to washing waxing. Do search for them. In the meantime, here are some points:

1. The dullness is usually and mainly due to swirl marks. To avoid swirls, you must wash the car using very soft material and ensure mud and other solid particles are not present on the surface. Obviously by now your car will be filled with some amount of swirls. But to avoid it becoming very serious, you must take care while washing from now on.

2. Professional detailing once in around 18 months will keep the car looking new. Also, waxing once in one or two months will retain the detailing effect.

Professional detailing, is a term used to define one or more processes, which can include things like claying, rubbing, swirl removal, waxing, polishing etc. The detailing that has to be done on a car depends upon the age of the paint along with the condition of the surface. Basic detailing will start from a simple wax and polish to a more complex one like claying, paint cuting, etc. The difference  b/w what is done personally and professionally is the tools used, the experience of the person and the materials used.

Is there any specific products to cure the dullness of the plastics in the exteriors? Whenever I wash my car, the body gets a  good shine. But the plastics like radiator grille looks very dull. So, please help.

For the plastics, the cheapest way is a sachet of waxpol dashboard polish. Soak the plastics with this and wipe off the excess after sometime. It will give the black plastics a very deep and new look. You also get dashboard sprays etc which can be used. Note that it makes the plaastics a bit slippery.

Since i left my car under a tree, there are lot of bird droppings ( now dried up ) on my new car, please advise on how to clean those.

My new baby looks really shabby now, and i am unable to wipe and clean her since she's mostly on the road.

I am planning to let my car for Ist service next week, hence, can i leave them like that.

Never let bird droppings remain on the car. The acidic effect will damage the paint surface. As soon as you see a stain, take a soapy solution of any shampoo and pour it over the area. This will neutralise the acid, as well as remove the stain. If it is newly dropped, it will run off with the water. Or else leave it soaked for some time and wash with excess water. Do not attempt to scrape the dropping.
