Travelling in India in own car - do we need permit?

Hi,

i am planning to go visit Jaipur, Agra , Manali & similar places in my own car.

do i need to get any permit.

What all documents we shall keep with us , in city/out of city/state

i dont think that we need any permit to travel in owr own car

i have been to jammu , ajmer , and many other places and faced no problem

wont traffic guys would ask for NOC kind of docs as registration number would be different

@Prashant, NOC is required only when you are going to stay in a particular city/state for a period of 30 days or more, generally. If you are on travel and with an intention to return to your home city with no stay in any city/state for more than 30 days no NOC is required.

Also, permits are required for commercial or taxi registered vehicles. Private vehicles (white registration board with black numbers) are free to roam anywhere in the country.

i have got my vehicle registered in my wife's name

if she is not travelling with me, how can i prove that its my car outside city?

No need to prove anything. Just carry the RC, Insurance and PUC along with valid driving license. You can drive anyones car anywhere in the country with proper documents in place. And you can always tell them that the cars on your wife's name. No one creates problem in such instances unless there is an alert for the same car in Police control room ;)

Do carry a fuel receipt to prove that you r in the city for a short period...just incase

RC, Insurance, Road Tax, Pollution and a valid license are the things u should carry while driving.. u can go anywhere in india(exclude security restricted areas) with these.. but it should be a private vehicle..

Road Tax??

i have got Insurance, RC, PUC with me.

i dont remember about any separate document for Road tax. Need to check again.
