Hi, I am Ajay from Delhi, I recently bought a 2001 Tata sierra and replaced the OEM 215/15/75 tyres with new rim and tyres of 235/16/70. Which didnt seem a big upgradation to me that time, but unfortunately its giving me problem scrapping with body here & then. If anyone can please suggest me the kind of suspension modification I should go for and please do also suggest mod./serv. to increase mileage/power and AC effect double ac or blower at back.

hi ajay what u need to do is change the front wishbone of sierra tothe safari one that needs to be fitted by a tenured machanic and change the suspention with the safari one as that are a long one that works perfectly on the car and u will not face the problem again

@Cherian,

Well, if you ask me don't go for the sierra - it is too old and perhaps obsolote by now. With 70k you can get a better (though smaller) car from the newer models.

Thanks Rohit.. But this one I am getting is a TATA SIERRA SINGLE OWNER WITH NEW ENGINE,NEW TYRES,NEW BATTERY,NEW UPHOLSTRY,NEW MATS,NEW HEAD LAMPS,A/C,POWER STEERING,POWER WINDOWS,CENTRAL LOCKING,WELL KEPT VEHICLE. thats what the owner has to say..
He is expecting 1.2 but i am trying to negotiate it down to less than a lac and I plan to use the vehicle max for 1 year or 2. I have a dog and thought sierra will be big enough to take him along with us..

If u suggest a small car: I can get an esteem, ford esscort, opel astra etc for around 80k.

Anyway i hope to get more response to this and does any of you know any good mech for sierra in bangalore?

Cheers...

Quoting what you said (bold emphasis mine): "TATA SIERRA SINGLE OWNER WITH NEW ENGINE,NEW TYRES,NEW BATTERY,NEW UPHOLSTRY,NEW MATS,NEW HEAD LAMPS,A/C,POWER STEERING,POWER WINDOWS,CENTRAL LOCKING,WELL KEPT VEHICLE."?? That's what the owner says? Well why not - after all he's selling the car.

And all that within 70k budget...? Well if what the owner says is true (so many new things) then isn't 70k too less to ask...?

Anyways, I guess more forum members will shed more light on this - that was just my thought process on this...

In my opinion don't go for the Sierra - it is too outdated and finding spares may be difficult in case of any future repairs. Same for the Esteem - though you may still be able to find spare parts for it.

Regarding the esteem's cost - it is already 6-7 years old (depending on month of manufacture) and the owner is selling it for 50k. My 2nd hand santro cost me about 1.8 lac when it was 6 years old. So unless I was conned (which I believe I was not since the car has not had any major problems till date), I would say that the esteem's condition probably is such (i.e., bad) that the owner is selling it for 50k.

If you can stretch your budget to about 1.5-1.8 lacs then I am sure you will find a good pre-owned car which you can use for the next 5-6 years (getting value for money in terms of distance travelled) - and with 1-1.2 lac you could easily get a new Tata Nano car - on the road it doesn't look bad at all...

Esteem is a good choice and spare parts are easily available. Spare parts for esteem are cheap too.

But its totally different to drive a sierra. Driving Sierra is like driving a powerful bull.

I own a 2005 esteem and a 1998 turbo sierra. I love my cars. But if need arises, I may let go off esteem. But I can never imagine losing sierra.

It depnds upon the city you live in, for spare parts of sierra. I got my sierra renovated with little difficulty.

Best altenative is to go back to 215. But lookswise 235 is unmatchable. But this compromises suspensions. I am still sticking to 215 in both front wheels and 235 in hind wheels. I don't know if it is going to have any adverse effect on suspesnions.
