Sierra was a part of my family for atleast 4-5 years. Its a higly spacious car but has lots of problems in it. The suspension and alignment design is very bad and the car had to be aligned after every couple of months

I tried this and I had understeer, I tried that and I had oversteer, at the end of the corner I just ran out of talent!

hi guys im new 2 this sight but love my car 95 sierra white with alloys standard nt turbo. my problem is when i apply brakes at about 100 110 speed the car drags nd wobbles what must be the problem. pl help ?

Hi anjan, can u clarify be two thing

When you apply break then you see Wobble

do you see wobble when you accelrate in 1st or 2nd to catch 60kms.

if you see the problem in both case then you need to get the whell alingment done, Especially when you try accelarate in constat speed.

Have a check done for Rear suspension Beds.

Also i dont see symptoms about throtell pins as you are saying car runs in 100-110, however i have noticed once in my car that above 100-110 i saw wobell when i touched break and accelerate it to bring it back to 100 from 80. When i have done proper chkings,  found one throttel pin filled with dust..wasnt able to inject the fule properly. I have changed it and then onwards i never seen that problem.

 Hope this helps you

A little less wobble can be avodied if u clean the wheel & fit all the screw nicely again my cousin's 800 use to wooble too much but when i removed the rear right tyre &cleaned all the nuts &screw &cleaned in kesosene ,petrol or desiel replaced it then the wooble was little less more over its rim also was a little out of shape had lost its wheel alinment some 1000 km back.

Anjan, there are many shops that specialise in A/C - for example in Malad there's one called Correa Car Cool. They do a good job except that once they touch it, your car will sport their sticker (print, rather) for the rest of its life - its hard to get rid off atleast by scraping. About the sun roof I don't have much idea...

Hi everyone,

I have 1998 Turbo sierra. I could manage to keep it in good mechanical condition. The only pending work is painting. Please suggest a good workshop near Mumbai and suggest the cost involved.

My sierra has moved 98000 kms. Please suggest if I need to get Engine overhauling done. As such I am not experiencing any difficulty regarding engine. Just wondering, if I am getting it repainted, shall I go ahead with engine overhauling. Kindly suggest the cost involved in it.

Also please suggest few other modifications.

If it aint broke, don't fix!!

Don't tinker with the engine if its working properly. Apart from changing the oil, cleaning the sparkplugs, I don't think you need to do much.

Well in Mumbai, there are several garages that do paintwork. Where are you located? Anyways, visit 3-4 garages and find out what price they quote for painting,

As for other modifications, I would not call them modifications but just routine checks/replacements:

  • Brake pads/shoes - At least once a year, preferably before the rains start.
  • Air filter - Every 6-12 months depending on where you drive (less/more dust, smoke, so on).
  • Oil & oil filter - Every 6 months at a minimum (BOTH oil & oil filter changed at the same time), the more frequent the better.
  • Spark plugs - every 12 months (clean them or replace them depending on their condition).
  • Electricals - a check of switches/relays maybe once a year or so (after rains is when most problems will crop up in old cars). If needed a little rust/oxide remover (like WD-40) in the connectors will ensure clean and trouble free connections. Also include the battery & its contacts.
  • Engine bay & underside cleaning - Every one or two years to remove accumulated dust & kachra-patti from under the car. Ironically many garage walas refer to this as "servicing". Many times this also includes a basic clean-up of the interiors also.

Well, that's it - do all this and I am sure your vehicle will give you long & trouble-free service.
