I owns i10 magna nxt gen. I learn driving 4 months back.I mostly drive on highways.I need help abt. my driving style:

The thing i do is whenver i feel car is overspeeded,i slows it down by pressing clutch & leaving accelarator. But there is 1 alternative way for slowing down that is "leave accelearor & don't press clutch (means leave every pedal).

I uses the 1st method to slow it down.I want to know that which method would be best for fuel efficiency and engine relaxing.

you should avoid pressing the clutch as much as you can and when it is not required to get the maximun fuel efficiency

And also you should keep careful watch at the speeds on your gear changes

Means you want to say that leave every pedal. But till today i was thinking that clutch lightens the car & keep it go longer after leaving accelerator.Because when i use the 2nd method,i found that car stops at shorter distance than the 1st method's distance.

@Shubham - the method that you are speaking of is called coasting. This is definitely not an appropriate method of driving a car. You are trying to use natural decceleration than the one from the engine. It is better to leave all the levers as that offers better control over the vehicle in case the road conditions change suddenly. If you press the clutch the car would definitely go a longer distance as it is free and is actually on idling. It is equivalent to ppushing a car when not engaged in any gear. Hope this helps.

Bad handling is not a problem for me because i've now habit of doing this and very comfortable with it.I want to know will this habit damage anything in the car or milege of the car?

Comments - as mentioned previously as well DO NOT quote the immediately preceeding post. Whne you reply in a thread it is evident that you are either replying towards the first post or the preceeding post. Please be careful in future

Shubham - I never mentioned about handling anywhere. I said control and this is totally different from Handling. The control you would have on your car with engine braking is much better than while coasting. You would notice the difference when you try both these methods in similar conditions.

It is generally advised not to keep the clutch disengaged for a long time (as is the case with coasting). Mileage would be  marginally different but not by so much that it causes a botheration

Would using the Clutch and Brake in tandem would give a good control and mileage ? pardon if it sounds silly

I assume you are speaking in a scenario when you want to gradually stop the car. In such cases it is suggested that you use the engine braking to the maximum (till the time when you feel the car wont stall) and then depress the clutch and then the brake. Finally release the brake, change the gear and release the clutch as well.

i have recently learnt to drive and driving in mumbai needs a lot of clutch. 1)will this burn the clutch plate sooner and 2)affect the mileage?

at present, santro xing xg 2004 has given an mileage of 11.5/ltr with a mixed AC usage.

I too use lot of clutching in my k10, because frequent gear changes becomes cumbersome in bumper to bumper traffic, almost i need to have my foot on the clutch for atleast 80% of the city driving.

The first thing i do to slow down is to depress the clutch and then depress the break ( i know this is not correct, but i'm really not able to control this )

I also feel scared to use the break and accel in tandem ( with the same foot), as sometimes instead of pressing break one may tend to press the accel ( and that is very worst )
