Hi all,

What is the process to be followed to legally ride a karnataka-registered two-wheeler in Mumbai? The vehicle is presently in Pune. Which of the following are needed?

  • Re-registration?
  • Payment of road tax?
  • NOC? (Is the NOC to be taken from Karnataka? Since the vehcle is now in Maharashtra and it is not possible to go back to get the NOC as the owner has shifted from there, what can be done?)
  • Any other processes?

Kindly reply ASAP.

Thanks for the guidance!

Welcome to carwale Gaurav.

The answer would depend on your requirements.Do you want to reregister the bike in Mumbai or do you want to keep the KA registration?

An accident is generally the result of a screw loose in the nut behind the steering wheel

I want to do whatever is cheaper yet legal! Please advise accordingly

(P.S.: What other factors should I consider - in case I have forgotten something - other than which option is cheaper and which option is legal?)

Hi Gaurav,

There are two options which you have stated  1. Legal  and 2. Cheaper 3. "The Dusra" way

1. Legal: You have to get the NOC from KA and register in Mumbai with all neccessary docs but it will  costly optionas it envolves road taxes+affiduate charges+new registration charges and lot other

2. Cheaper: In it you can just get your two wheeler there in mUmbai and drive it  there without keeping in sight of police.

3."The Dusra": It is just an extension of 2way that you can drive your vheical in MUmbai by keeping the same registration but paying only road taxes of Mumbai. so whenever you get cought you can show the road tax receipt to police .

I have a query here. Is it possible to pay the road tax in mumbai and drive here. I have a KL registered bike and i wanted to know the possibilities since i dont want to change the registration. How much will be the road tax for 2 years. Any other document needed for this other than RC,Insurance, and pollution?

Can you please tell the procedure for this. i stay in NErul and i believe Vashi is the neareast RTO office.

Is this tax paid document enough to get away from cops when they ask for NOC.
