I own a car registered in Mumbai. Now, I have relocated to Gujarat and would like to get local Gujarat registration no. for my car. What procedure & costs are involved? Can I get refund of road tax / Octroi / any other amount paid by me in Mumbai on a/c of changing the registration?

Welcome to carwale.

You will have to get an NOC from Mumbai and submit it along with the transfer of ownership forms and related documents in Gujarat. In Gujarat you will required all the forms signed by you and the existing owner along with the address proo, PUC, insurance etc of the vehicle. The entire process should cost less if done by you and more if done by an agent. You can get a refund for the tax paid in Mumbai by filling the required form

Thanks for your revert. I heard that Mumbai Corportion does not refund the Tax! Can we download the required Form/s for the transfer / refund from Internet? I am just changing the Registration from Mumbai to Gujarat. There is no change in ownership.

All the forms are available online at Mumbai RTO website. It is not that they dont refund the tax but the time it takes to refund is just infinite. You may or may not get the tax back but no harm in filling the application form.

Thanks. I do agree, that no harm in filing the refund. The infinite time taken by them implies that " they do not refund the tax amount". Thanks once again.
