There are two things that are hampering your mileage: -

  1. Traffic
  2. Newness of the car

With time both will improve. While the traffic would still be the same, once you get more comfortable with your car, the driving style by itself help in improving the efficiency a little bit. Similarly over a period of time when the optimal level of wear happens in the engine and piston rings (normally after second service), the efficiency againt would go up.

In my case, I get around 11Kmpl in such traffic stituations. Since you have the new VVT engine, you should aim for 11.5KMPL. Just keep noting the FE after 5-6 months and then again after an year. I am sure you will see an improvement. As of now, there is not too much to worry.

Dear Himanshu,

Thanks for your valued advice and sharing your experience.

I guess too that after the 2nd service, the F.E. Should imporve. If I get an average of 11KM/l, there is nothing to complain because this is what is expected. I would reckon, the longer drives with less stop/starts would also help. As far as driving style is concerned yes this is an important factor but I do take full care on trying to drive in a manner which would yield optimum results...

So lets hope it would improve over a period of time.
