People who can afford the Veyron are hardly bothered about the FE. Its just a status symbol for them. For the records the Veyron gives 8 miles per gallon (29 liters for 100 kms) which translates to around 4kmpl. This is in city. On highways it gives 13 miles per gallon (18 liters  for 100 kms) which translated to around 6 kmpl. At top speed the FE is 8 miles to a gallon (78 liters for 100 kms) which is around 1.5 kmpl and at this speed it 1.4 gallons (5.3 liters) of fuel every minute. I guess this would be immeterial when you will be paying £20000 for a set of 4 tyres, isnt it.

When it comes to affording fuel for car, any car owner with car of 15 + lakhs rupees prictag will not be much bothered about fuel. Person who can buy 15 lakh cars would be earning minimum 2 - 3 lakhs per month and he can easily afford to fill up the tank of petrol worth rupees 3K every week. Laughing

But even for expensive cars, FE is matter of concern since low FE means more higher CO2 output and hence more pollution Also, FE decides the range of car with tankful of fuel.

Driving is privilage, not a right.

Really no. To be frank, you wouldnt be using more than 100bhp of power in these conditions. To extract the fullest potential of any car, you need an open road, a skillful driver and lots of fuel

Only thing where better power/torque helps is accelaration and roll on accelaration. That is also if the driver is skillful enough to make use of the powerband of the engine. Rest, you can find a 100bhp+ car that lugs its way on the road due to improper gearing

Something like having a 2000 Watts music system when your ear needs only 2 Watts.

Higher CO2 emission will still not create a concern for the FE of these expensive cars. What people buy these cars is for status and performance.
