I have driven my car in Pune with the Nitrogen filled tubes. I have experience that there you need not to check the tyre pressure every week, as it is required in case of normal air filling. The dealers claim that it lasts for 5 months which is not true but ofcourse we can enjoy driving and avoid pressure check atleast for three months.

I would appreciate if anybody gives the address of Nitrogen filling stations in Delhi.

can anybody scintifically prove that leakage of AIR is more in comparision with NITROGEN from tyres.what i understand is that mainly leakage is from the valve of the tyre restvery small quantity can be from the tyre (rubber) itself .

Dear Kbj,

Nitrogen molecules are bigger in size compare to molecules of Oxygen.

In atmosphere 78 % is Nitrogen, 21% is oxygen and remaining 1% are other gases.

When we fill normal air also, we are actually filling 78% of nitrogen already.

Normal air also consists moisture. Oxygen together with moisture can cause internal rusting in steel belted radial tyres in long run.

@kbj - The only advantage of 100% nitrogen over 78% nitrogen (i.e. ordinary air) is that it is safer to use where higher pressures and temperature variations are expected - such as aircraft tyres. For ordinary automibile use the difference is marginal - more psychological than anything else.

If leakage is a concern, simply pump in more air (22% more, to be precise) to make the amount of N2 to be the same as that of a pure N2 tyre at 22% lower pressure. Once the oxygen leaks out you will be left with 100% N2 at the same pressure as the 100% N2 lower pressure tyre - and save the 50-100 odd rupess that you would have spent on pure N2.

Yesterday i got all the 4 rims of my Santro Xing XK model replaced as the older rims were leaking the airs out of my tubeless tyres and was in a very bad shape . I also replaced the battery of the car. The shop where i went in to change the rims requested me to try Nitogen for the tyres. Since i have heard a lot about Nitrogen filling from my friend, i accepted the request. Lets see how if performs.

Hi

In my first service The Hyundai service guys gave Nitrogen air as complimentary , it lasted for only a month , then i had to refill it , I though initially some air might been present hence got it refilled after throwing out all the air present inside.Again this time too it lasted for only a month. I believe when someone is going for a very long drive Nitrogen is better but for regular use if it stays for a month and each tyre costing is a bit high

Regards

Mathew

If there are no punctures and if the leakage is mostly through rubber pores, after a few topups (we fill only to replace the small molecules which are lost), it will be mostly nitrogen which will be left! So why pay for it? I dont know if a mixute of gases (eg:air) behaves that way.

By the way, one taxi driver was telling me that filling nitrogen maybe good for private cars but not for taxi with heavy load (luggage etc) since nitrogen filled tyres cannot withstand heavy load.He is talking as if pure nitrogen has more compressibility than air at same pressure. I dont know if this has any scientific basis or just his feeling.

Tomy.

there is one at nangia park shakti nagar

and there is a definate difference in the stability since u r filling the typres with lighter than air stuff which actually keeps well. the refill cost is rs 5 per tyre and by the way how much do u pay when the man at petrol pump smiles and namasteys )
