I doubt the it can be fitted in an Omni because there isn't any space for it in the engine compartment. Rest you can confirm with Maruti authorized service station.

If it is possible, it will cost you Rs.23,000 for the unit with additional charges for fitting and requires a lot of modifications.

I have tried that fitting ac to Omni and the result was hell, primarily the cooling was 50 % of what u can get in a 800 and even for that u have to wait and run for atleast half an hr. secondly it sucks the power of engine that a bajaj RE auto can overtake the van. Dont ever think of it. Its sheer wastage of money and time.

That is true b'cos the insulation for air conditioning is not good in the omni. Also you can feel the power drop in the 800 also with the ac on.

hello friends,

if anybody would tell me whether AC can be fitter in alto std. if so, what are the minus points of doing so.  actually a am planning to buy an alto. but due to some fund problem i presently can not by alto lx. The difference between alto lx and std is rs 40000. so i want to buy alto std now and then fit ac in it after some time.  would it be economical for me.or it would draw some disadvantage.

pl reply

thanks

Hi Pradip,
There is no issue with an ac fitted on a latter date, you can always go ahead with it. Morever you would save a bit of a money also if you fit an ac from outside.
For cars of this segment there is a drop in power when ac is put on , but it is commom as to company fitted or owner fitted. The timing of the fitment is not an issue.
But one thing i have seen is that a car with company fitted ac has a better insulation to take care of the ac. Which maybe they do not bother with a std model without an ac.
So, i would advice, fit the ac whenever you have the finance for it but get the doors insulation etc checked after the fitting and check the efficiency of the ac.

Forgot to add an experience for an 800, the company fitted ac car took 10 mins running to cool the car while a letter fitted car took more than 20 mins for cooling the car with same passenger load and weather conditions.

Hi Pradip,

Fitting an AC in a new Alto will void its warranty, so its not recommended to get it fiited during the warranty period.

If you get it fitted from a Maruti authorized service centre, that will cost you around Rs.32,000(including taxes) and warranty will remain intact, so i think its better to spend Rs.40,000 extra on LX. An AC fitted from somewhere else other than the Maruti will cost around 22,000 but as I said, warranty will be void. And moreover, from where ever you get it fitted, there always is a chance of occurance of some complications, now its upto you.

Mr. Pradip,

In the Registration Certificate Books (Blue Books) of cars registered in the state of West Bengal there are columns for whether an a.c. is fitted and whether a tape recorder is fitted.  Cars with the these features attract a higher road tax.  Cars with after market fitments are fined heavily in case of any deviation in documentation detected during sporadic spot checksby traffic police or Motor Vehicles department. Pl. check with the RTO in your state on the applicable rules and what measures you will have to take to regularise your vehicle's papers in case you decide on proceeding with your proposal.
