Whatever TATA Motors is today, is because of Indica, India's cheapest diesel car. Nano might become a success if they really launch a diesel variant. But, the price will surely go above Rs.2.25 lacs.

Tata Motors has been testing the Nano Diesel for quite some time. The car was earlier spotted last April undergoing tests on the expressway. the diesel nano was spotted being driven on the outskirts of Pune on the old Mumbai-Pune highway. The car was being driven at 60kmph and was accompanied by a left hand drive Indica Vista and Aria. The Nano diesel is powered by a Bosch developed common rail motor. The 700cc single cylinder engine is expected to produce close to 35 bhp of power and 110Nm of torque. With a claimed mileage figure of 30kmpl from various sources, the Nano diesel will be the most frugal car in the world. The Nano diesel will be launched by the end of this year, with prices starting at Rs. 2 lakhs.

Tata's are coming out with diesel Nano by as early as July 2011.

The rumors are that it will sport a 1.2 lt engine and will have a (expected) price tag of 2.25 lacs. Smile

What is the source of this particular news/info? Is it based only on rumours or you read it at some place thats credible? On the face of it, the news looks like only a rumour to me with no logic in it. The 1.2 l diesel will be hell a lot expensive making the Nano far more costly than it is now. The USP for the Nano is that it would supposedly help people with 1 lac in their pocket to get a car. If they get a 1.2 diesel then the only USP for the Nano will be lost and this is evident from Shearsh's post of the nano having a 700cc engine which makes sense. Another glitch is the price tag. a 1.2l engine for just 2.25 lacs? I suggest you do not post any news/infor or start any threads unless you are aware of its credibility.

I read about tata nano diesel coming in newspapers.

They have mentioned it as 700 CC engine for nano. And reading earlier post saying 35 BHP and 110 torque, it would be good to drive. Infact Earlier Indica diesel had lesser torque. Tongue out

Considering diesel cars give 50 % more mileage than petrol brothers, diesel nano will easily give 35 kmpl. Infact tat is working hard to tune nano to give mileage of 40 kmpl.SurprisedCool

If so, then nano will give serious threat to Alto. And it will be blockbuster. believe me, if they launch it then I would be also a customer as I would prefer nano over my motorcycle for daily use.

They should price it for 1.9 lakhs for base model ex showroom. Top end model should not go beyond 2.5 lakhs OTR.
