The stock battery fitted in my Honda city is rated at 30Ah/20HA ,i had replaced the battery with Amron 35 AH battery and it lasted 3.5 years.

As  my car has a lot of electrical gadgets like LCD/Power Amp with Sub-woofer/Fogs/Under body lights/Head lights with Halogen bulbs of 100/90 watts/In cabin lights/Power Horns.I am thinking of putting a 38 AH ,amron battery.

Hope there is no problem with electricals and there will be no over heating of the wires.

Can any one throw some light.

An early advise would be of great help

3.5 years is good service that you got from your battery. Battery usually lasts for upto three years if maintained well and your batter went beyond that. It is advisable to go for the existing one that you are using. Since it is serving your purpose of supporting all the gadgets, 25Amps should be good enough.

Hi Rakesh,

you cannot expect the higher AH battery to suffice for the extra accessories in the car - the alternator is responsible for charging the battery. A higher capacity battery will take longer to charge up, and you may find that on shorter routes+ heavy accessories use, a higher capacity battery will take longer to charge up to full capacity, hence may be detrimental rather than helpful.

My suggestion is not to deviate too much from the stock configuration too much. Maybe you can try the 38 AH one, but you know what is missing, if it runs down orfails early.

I don't think there's any problem in putting a 38Ah battery in place of the 35Ah one. The difference in alternator loading or charging will be very small. If the alternator is in good condition (which it should be), then you can install a high capacity battery PROVIDED that its fully charged (by external means) before it is installed. Since the battery is full to start with, the load it will place on the alternator will be rather small (as much as the stock battery).

I can't throw any light because my overloaded battery is already dead - just kidding  Laughing.

Additional electrical gadgets do not affect the life of battery as much as you think - probably not at all.  But there is one precaution - keep power hungry gadgets (including a/c) on only when engine is running that means they should be turned on only after cranking the engine and turned off before turning off the engine.  Second, don't change the original electrical fuse for any circuit with higher rated fuse - you may put your car on fire inadvertently.

If you plan to keep the car for long time it is always recommended to get the best replacement battery which will fit in your car.  They will last for longer time and will not keep you stranded in dark winter night and are maintenance free for life, which may be 5-8 years.

Are you in Chennai or in Bangalore? Anyways the price difference won't be too much so you can inquire at the local battery shops...

hi Ravi, I have replaced my i10's battery i.e. 35Ah Exide which is same as Honda City (as per Battery dealer). I bought it for Rs.3800 in Pune (Rs300 for the old battery which is already deducted here). I think I paid little more
