Thats absolutely true. The dashboard material evaporates and is a carcinogenic gas. Its more in new cars. So u have that typical new car plastic smell. Reduces with time.

So if the car is parked in the sun, open the windows and let the car ventilate itself and then rollup the windows and put the ac on. It wont combine with the ac gas as the unit is sealed and we do not breath the ac gas.

Thank you Sanket. Quite informative.

Updates: I got the 3M CR70 sun film installed on the front windscreen day before yesterday. The workmanship was excellent. Paid Rs.5,500/-.

With this, the car is fully covered: 3M CR70 on front, and 3M RE50 on sides and rear.

Experience: Just 2 days elapsed but I loved it. Drove @night and drove on a hot afternoon. At night, did not see much difference in the visibility (can say .. it is very slightly reduced). But the advantage was reduced glare from vehicles opposite me which is very good. The film is very clear.

During the afternoon time, the effect was as if we're wearing a mild grey sunglass. The shiny roads were not reflecting in the eyes, thereby presenting a "cool" effect on the eyes. Very nice.

And about the main point: cooling inside the cabin. It took time for cooling to take place ... but once cooled, it remained cool for a much longer time. With AC knob reduced by 1 level, could get almost the same effect as earlier. The cabin was never so cool from inside.

To summarize: I can only say I should have done this much earlier. At the same time, would like to really advise fellow readers to either go for very clear sunfilms on the windscreen, or to avoid it altogether. The price to be paid for the clarity is worth it.

By "clear" sunfilms, in the above post, I mean those with highest VLT. Those offering highest VLT (Visible Light Transmission) as well as very good TSER and UV protection are expensive but worth. Especially on front windscreen one should not compromise.

Update: there is a definite loss of visibility at night, and I have had some uncomfortable time while driving from Mumbai to Pune @night. Pl. be careful about your decision.

@Jaysheth

I have some questions to ask about cr 70's performance

Could you do a test/trial with your installed cr 70 for me and let me know the results? I originally wanted to install cr 70, but later installed a brand called 'global' , the price is 3800, but mistakenly ended up paying 5200/- to the dealer.

I had read that the heat rejection of this global brand was around 35 %. But I parked my car in the hot sun and was appalled at the results. The dashboard heated up in no time and it now appears that I have wasted my money by investing in this 'global' brand.

Before I make the final judgement, I want to know if this is something that can happen with better brands such as cr 70.....?

Hence could you do the same thing and and park your car under the hot sun after 12.30 PM for about  30 mins, as  I did when I did my test  and PM me your findings........
