Sorry to spoil the celebtation but ther are things that they don't tell you about how good are gas fuels for the engine. Gas fuel, lacks the lubricity that exist in gasoline and diesel. The lubricity is crucial for the upper head components -piston crown, cylinder bore rings and valves. the rsult is higher friction , greater wear to engine parts, higher temperature (the spray of liquid fuel mixture with air cool down the combustion chamber). Bottom line-shorter life span of engine, blow-by of combustion gases to oil sump, worse performance. But why should they tell you all this when all they want is to ease up the pressure from importing oil.

Hi.. all...

I have planned to purchase a honda city 1.5 Exi 2003 model and later converting it with LPG kit, after going through this thread couple of days back. But, I pushed into a dilemma when i met the AUTO Consultant who offered me the above Car... saying LPG/CNG Kit won't be a good choice for CITY like MPFI engines as they only good with Carburator Engines...

Actually I got convinced by Mr. Bhanwari's detailed explanation how the both petrol and LPG fuels get burned and there is NO harm for the engine with LPG as they burnt completely with out leaving any harmfull substances in the Engine... But, this time the two techincal words kept in Dilemma.. So, please answer my doubt by explaining the function of both  MPFI and Carburator engines when LPG and Petrol used... and tell me... Shall i go for LPG kit for Old Honda City model or NoTT????

It isn't the case that CNG requires more maintenance but it definately reduces the performance of the car but then you save a lot of money. Fitting the CNG kit in old cars might bring about complications in the car because it cannot be as good as a factory fitted equipment, high maintenance issue might be due to this but otherwise CNG  won't contribute to higher maintenance as a "fuel." No difference in cost of maintenance for a car running on alternate fuel.

Karan owns a wagon-R duo(LPG), he knows better if there if any difference, so please comment on this Karan.

CNG cars available till date are Lancer, Optra(factory fitted) & Indica(after sales dealer fitment which is as good as factory fitted and warranty holds good.) Santro CNG will be out by year end.

Hi Anurang, i agree with your point

     I read the complete thread of this CNG Vs LPG. I found few info. on the same;

Go for CNG if 1) You are driving 50km/day 2) CNG is cheaper than LPG 3) Economical

Go for LPG if 1) You are driving less than 50km/day 2) LPG bit costlier than CNG

So whats the difference?

1) CNG installation costs ~2 times more than LPG

2) CNG affects Engine life than LPG

And before buying Check the Availability of the CNG centres

So my suggestion is to go for LPG if you are going to have the vehicle for long time, go for CNG if you have any plan of selling it after some years.Kiss

Well, the suggestion again would lead to more questions.

Questions that rise from within answers Foot in mouth.  Confused? Don't be, let me get in the BIG question again.

When Using LPG/CNG ,ultimately the BIGGEST aim is to SAVE more.

So your final suggestion may or may not "fit" in. Going for CNG if one plans to sell it after some years? Is it because the Life of the engine on cng would be shorter than life of the engine on LPG? Well its only marginally less, not a drastic difference. And also, the HUGE savings would still leave you with more money even if the Engine dies out fighting with a LPG engine comaparison.

Running Cost of LPG at present are good enough to make you save. But don't forget what happened in 2008. Please go through THIS.

Cheers.
