Hi Naveen,

I do not think the base level has brake assists, but you can write an email to skoda customer care and you will get the info more over you can check on skoda website.

Spare parts are all same, I have an hyundaii10 and fabia, hyundaii10 i have to leave the car for 1st service in the first month and next is after 6 months and then after a year thats it only 1 year service, where as my skoda after 1 year from the time i bought the car, more convinient and i have not visited service station from the time i have bought the car, have gone to mangalore in one of the worst road i have scraped my cars bottom (Do not assume that the car is very low floored infact all cars were scraping the road, include the volvo bus also)but no signs of the car giving up on any issue.

Now comparing i10 and fabia:

I have i10 1.2liters which is same as i20 and fabia.

What i find difference is the shocks are excellent in fabia it does not throw the back people ouutside the car(Joking), but the shoks in fabia are excelent.

Interiors are cool in fabia and it has a rich look compared to i10 and i20

i20 has good electonics inside compared to fabia.

Fabia has a thick skin but the i10,i20 are like tin cans.

safety features are also good: ABS,Brake Assist,Air bag,Shear and bolt(In case of accident the engine falls to the ground rather than entering the cabin)

Fog lamps with DRL cool.

One thing missing is gear shift indicator and turn indicators on the lamp

Good discount: i got 50K on fabia elegance petrol where as i10 i got around 30K or so.

Leg room is good in both.

Service wise Hyundai and skoda service station is same in bangalore some people cheat and some are true, i found skoda kinda okay compared to hyundai.

Mileage is one thing i have to check both will give me same +-2Kms difference, it aslo depends on location of drive and traffic.

Sine you are looking for base variant i think that also has more features than i10 magna(Safety features)

Though the i10 is my dad's i find that these are the basic differences between the 2.

If you buy an i10,i20 or fabia if you have luck you will get good car if not any manufacturer you cannot do anything all sail in same boat.

Regards

Kunaal,

your replies were spot on. i am not gonna believe the dual brake assist thing.

What is the discount you got on diesel fabia, if any?

Spares _ i did find the image you posted but not sure how they compare with Maruti or Hyundai.

I got Skoda Fabia Elegance 1.2 TDI in July 2011. There are some of very strange features. Here is my Experience.
Good Feature: The car door gets auto locked when the speed goes beyond 15 kmph.
Funny Side (Simple Clever): You can open the door from inside, but you can’t open the door from outside, who will open the doors of running car from outside. And it is claimed to be the best safety featured car.

Good Feature : Almost all the cars with their top end give you indicator that you have not put on your seat belt.
Funny Side (Simple Clever): There is a indicator on the dash board which doesn’t have connections to tell that you have not put the seat belt, but you know the car says, don’t worry dude, I have airbags to make sure that you don’t hit me to damage my parts.

Good Feature: The AC blower and the temperature controller are always blowing air to keep your cabin cool or hot (depends on the cool/hot setting).
Funny Side (Simple Clever): The blower many time brings in the outside dust and particles of engine smoke inside the cabin and the only solution to this is close all the vents this is what says Mr. Sanjay Mahale of Asset Auto .

Even then, the car is good but the after sales it too poor  which makes me feel that dont do the mistake that I did in buying it.

This is not an issue if you ask me. Central locks get activated automatically when the car reaches 15 kmph and remain locked after that even if you stop. The locking effect is the same as that of you locking the car from outside. In that case you cannot open it from outside but had you locked someone inside they should manually be able to open the door. If I am not wrong this is the case with most cars.

Not sure what you mean here but even in cars like swift the only thing to remind you to wear a seat belt is a light flashing on the screen. Nothing apart from that.

This again is common for all cars. I recently test drove the new swift and we passed an area where there was some smoke. Within seconds the smoky smell was inside the car. I checked the AC settings and the AC was set to recirculate (air within the car being circulated and no air from outside coming in) and inspite of that there was the smell. I asked the SE who was with me on the TD and all he could do was give a small smile.

Between is the A.S.S.C. of skoda still bad in Pune. Can you share some experience of yours?

The point he is trying to make here is that in cars like the Fiesta, Fabia, there is no separate unlock lever as in the case of other cars with central lock. You just pull the door lever, the door gets unlocked as well as opened. So, if you have kids in the rear, it is a must that you use the child safety lock. Else, just a pull of the door lever will both unlock the door as well as open it.

You can’t open the door from inside with the door opening lever of all the cars that has a lock lever and are locked either with central lock or by lock lever. The lock lever gives you two steps to open a door that ensures that a person is not doing it by mistake. In most of the cases that I have seen people first try to pull the door lever without opening the lock lever and that gives them chance to ensure that the vehicle is stopped. Door opening from inside when car is not completely stopped is very dangerous a two step approach with Lock lever gives better control. According to me, it is the drivers control to tell passenger that he has stopped the car and the passenger is safe to get down of the car. Unfortunately there is no Lock lever in Fabia which makes it dangerous. I dont see much value in keeping the door locked from outside when you are sitting inside the car.

In Fabia Elegance which is the top end there is seatbelt indicator on the dashboard but that is not working.

Even if you keep the AC and Blower button completely OFF, the blower and the temperature controllers are continuously ON and blowing air in the cabin which brings in dust and smoke in side.

Actually there is a quite annoying history with my car with Asset Auto and Skoda sales. I had to write lot of emails to Skoda. Even knowing this Asset are least bothered. I will share it soon.

Hi,

To stop smoke and dust entering the cabin you will have to press the recirculation button which is present or else the car will suck air from the external environment, and when off press the recirculation button so that no dust and smoke enters, if it enters then please take your car to skoda and get the dust and pollen fikter and the buttin checked.(button has symbol like to curved arrows in oppostite direction, this button is the left button on the ac)

Seat belt warning is de activated by skoda and is active in 13 EU nation where it is mandatory, it s a wiring which needs to be done from the seat belt clip section, you may check my post on Briskoda website where i have mentioned about this asking all fabians from other parts of the world.

@Sankalp - oh ok. Probably I did not get exactly what Sameer wanted to say.

@Sameer - did you try to get the seat belt indicator repaired from Asset Auto? ALso have you tried the service of Europa auto by any chance? If not then I would suggest you try then as well once.

Hmm.. Thank you Santos your answer regarding smoke is more convincing and logical then the Service Manager. In last 3 weeks the Asset skoda Service station have cleaned the pollen filter twice but I didnt get such a convincing answer, I had a ride in city today with recirculation ON the and it seems to be working , I will update as I drive more.

I hope the warranty is not violated if I put on the wire, in city like Pune where seat belt is mandatory, I felt shamed when my friend pointed out that in spite of paying higher cost for safety, Skoda failed to give a small wire. I would have happily paid maybe some 500 buck more to have this wire with the car
