Hey Guys,

Recently some miscreant puposely with a key scrached (about 1 mm deep) my wagonr LXI from dikki (via both doors ) to bonnet on 1 side. As the car was parked and I was away from the car, I dont know who has done it.

Can I claim for insurance to repair the damage? If yes, are there any special documents that I have to produce (eg an FIR- which I have not filed as I dont know who has done it) Approximately how much would this cost? Would the garage have to paint the whole car or just those portions can be repainted?

Sorry for the Car but this has turned out to be a regular practise.

Might not required to paint the whole car but one side full will be costing you a lot, first consult a garage and ask about the paint estimation.

If the cost is too high then ask the garage people how to get it claimed. This is a regular affair for garage people and they have their network with Insurance agents/supervisors.

You will get your answer.

Sorry about that. Its really sad that we car owners have to suffer the idiosyncrasies of some people and end up losing our peace of mind, precious time  and hard earned money as well

A really big price to pay for owning a car in India.

Well - coming back to the topic, you CAN claim insurance. Pls check with the friendly neighborhood ASS or garagewala for details.

Other option is to polish the car or use some stuff like Fix-it pro. Other members on this forum have used it with decent level of satisfaction.

Mind you, there are so many car owners in India. Big price or low price you need a car. Dont be so sarcastic.

But I doubt if they will accept "painting only" claim. Normally Insurers dont accept this type of claim.

This is the best option.

Thilak,

Not sure what made you feel that I was being sarcastic. In any case I am NOT being sarcastic. Its just the fact. I own two cars and have suffered many times for no fault of mine and in some cases incidents were similar to what happened with 'Carman' above. Not sure of Thanjavur but these sorts of incidents are common in Mumbai as cars are more and parking space is at a premium.

The reason I have replied on this post is that I am aware of cases where this has happened and insurance has been claimed. The ASS will assist you.

@Carman,

Feel free to PM/get in touch with me via this forum in case you need any assistance.

Hey thanks Guys and thanks "Live2drive" for offering your help. Many of my friends have advised me not to go to the authorised dealer (my car is 1.5 years old and under warranty), but to go to a nearby small time mechanic. Apparrantly there is some whitish powder/paste which they rub into the scratches to lightem them so that they are almost unnoticable....Any of you guys have any idea about this. They say that should cost me a few hundreds.

Do tell me if you have any idea.

No cover on plastic/fiber and paint by most of the Insurance companies.

You can get in touch with some good detailing (cleaning and polishing etc) guy in your city and I'm sure he will be able to offer something good, unless the depth of the scratch is too much.

If you have the zero dep insurance cover taken off late, then plastics and rubber will also be covered.
