@high speeds (more than 120 kmph), as per my experience, most of the cars are not safe on Indian roads. And this is mostly due to road conditions than car itself. However, Mumbai-Pune Expressway is exception to this. And even at high speed of 150+ you feel like in total control of the car. Now here is the catch. On this road, cars ability is tested at these speeds.

Talking about Lancer, I always admired it from my childhood due to its looks. When I grew up I learnt more about this car as rally sports car (means a rock solid built with max stability on rally kinda conditons). When I bought this car (8 yrs old used car), I tested it on expressway straight away and was stunned to find that its better than any new car. Even at speed of 160, 170 you dont feel like flying. You can still hear the sound of tyres rubbing with road and you can still feel the steering well within your control. Absolutely awesome.  Should I say more

Awesome.. Ur words make me feel as if I am riding in a Lancer at 160KMPH.... Smile

Thanks SolitaireKing. I must admit your posts and those of Steeroid were very instrumental in my decision to buy the Safari.

I simply love this beast now and my ownership is just about 24 hours.  But I'm going OT. Sorry.

140 - 1990 HM Contessa Classic powered by the ISUZU G1 diesel. Car was just rock solid but there was nothing more in the engine, also the NVH levels were very high which is understandable! Achieved in the Pollachi-Palakkad L&T by-pass road with 5 people on-board.

130 - 2006 Corolla H5. Pretty sold and never felt uncomfortable. Achieved in the Rameshwaram-Madurai highway.

120 - 2010 Palio MJD. Better than the corolla, actually felt as though I was doing a cool 80kmph. Extremely under control. Achieved in the Coimbatore - Pollachi highway.

@ anandh

Think Corolla can do much more. May it is d road which u drove in. The others here are doing good speeds in expressways, but 130 is a really good speed for highways in this part.

Also 120 in Coimbatore-Pollachi highway is not an easy joke as traffic is more in this road. U're doing great.Cool But also be careful man.Wink

180 Kmph - VW Passat - during extreme TD with hard braking & turns !!!

140 Kmph - Aveo  ( NH -8 Surat - Mumbai ).

135 Kmph - Indica V2 ( Nadiad - Ahmedabad Expressway ) .

In Indica one can feel its limit at this speed & I drove it only once . Touching 120 -140 on NH -8 is common but recent road conditions are very poor & you never know what is going to come after few seconds .

Passat was exception & after that TD my friend booked it .

Hey Anshu: Great to know you are from Bhilai Man!!!!

So very excited to read "Central Avenue" again. the raod is as good as it can get, but with those circles after every one km and with two wheelers coming in from just about any crossing, i feel it is quite dangerous to drive too fast in there.

As far as i am concerend, even though I like speeds (I would normally run at 80 - 100 even while commuting from noida to ggn in the morning). I have never raced with the speedo much. I just acheived a top speed of 155 in my SX4 on the greater noida expressway. Then I looked down at the odo and relasied it was time to slow down a touch. the car in itself did not raise any complaints. I knew I was above 100 but the handling was soo good I did not know it was so fast. it was absoultely stable and could have done much more with a more enterprising driver.
