Please note that the above figures are only for domestic sales. I have excluded the export figures from here. so in some cases they may seem to be lower than what is claimed in press releases like the one mentioned earlier.

It is interesting to know that inspite of such high growth in sales of Maruti , their margin ( profit ) was down by more than 20 % for the first time in history . It shows how rivals have dented their earnings .

Just yesterday I read that Maruti is increasing prices of almost all cars to componsate increase in raw material cost.

Neo: As mentioned I have taken those numbers from the press releases. So for companies that have not come out with such a release, I have not covered those.

Regarding Maruti seeing a drop in profits, it is due to the rise in input costs. The raw materials have become very costly recently and manufacturers have not been able to increase prices. Now Maruti has increased their prices slightly to cover this up. Other manufacturers too will follow suit in order to maintian their profit margins. But this is unlikely to have any significant impact on the sales volumes.

Fiat is the only brand to report a drop in numbers. It is about time they create a fresh buzz in the market. Competitors are coming up new models or updates on a fairly regular basis. A failure to catch up with them will cost it dearly.

The cars that fall under these segments are as follows.

A1 M800
C Omni, versa,  Eeco
A2 Alto, Wagon-R, Estilo Zen, Ritz, Swift, A-Star
A3 SX4, D'zire
MUV Gypsy, Grand Vitara

There are segment like A4 (Cruze, Civic etc.) , A5 (Accord etc.) and D (Merc etc.). However, Maruti does not have any offering in these.
