1. yes ur car can b converted to lpg anywhere in india

2. zen of any yr can b converted legally anywhere in india ,,,,,,,,,not only that many earlier models like maruti 800 of th 80s and ambassador of th 70s can also now b converted to lpg legally

3. yes lpg does affect th engine .... contrary to common belief ....... lpg improves th health of th car ... reduces maintainance expences and increases th life of th car engine

4. ford ikon 1.6 also runs very successfully on lpg ..........  i hv myself used an ikon 1.6 on lpg for 2 yrs bfore i sold it last yr ......... it is true that many ikon owners are not happy ... th diff lies in professional and knowledgeable fitting i suppose

5. not even one car company recommends lpg ...... even maruti which itself sells lpg cars does not recommend ... possibly bcoz it does not generate any revenues for them............... yet lacs of cars run on lpg ....... it is for th owner to distinguish whether he is interested in saving thosands o rupees every month n using a cleaner fuel

I fully agree with Mr. Gambhir's observation/s dated 1/9 (or 2/9 as indicated in the reply) , the press release was of 1999 . Will the contents hold good on date; if yes it well be a boon to Ford Ikon 1,6 Owners .

Any further advise

Regards

M. Farooq Shaikh

1. lpg is now available in all states, barring some outlying hilly states ..... which is abt 85% of india

2. most popular cars post 1991 can b converted to lpg ...... but not any kit can b installed on any car ........... th permissions r car specific ..... kit specific ........ so it is possible that on car A ,,,, only kits X &Y can b used ......... while on car B ...... only kits Y & Z can b used

3. ikon 1.6 ............u r rite ... its th same in mumbai ......many fitters warn against converting a 1.6 ............ i said 'many' ..... not 'all' .......... besides my own car i hv seen scores of lpg ikon 1.6 owners who were very happy. th diff lay in th professionalism of th fitter i suppose

4. there r no petrol cars which r not compatible with lpg ........... cars r only less or more compatible ..... abroad .... there r a whole gang bang of mercedes .... bmws ..... n rolls ... running on lpg ..................... in mumbai i hv seen cars like optra ... sonata .....corolla ...... honda crv ..... skoda sports .... th luxurious skoda superb .... and even a 3000 cc / 225 bhp / 6 cylinder honda accord v6 running successfully on lpg

If you want better Power convert to LPG if its avaiable in your city  , even CNG is good and nature Freindly  and these 2 alternate FUels will certainly help you keep your running costs Down

Cheers,
Sri

Prefer LPG to CNG.

Honesty is not a Spare Wheel that you pull out when in trouble. It's a Steering Wheel that keeps you on the right path throughout the life's journey.
