Hi Rick,

You can park the vehicle at the village(Lohagaon?) at the base of the trecking route. The fort would be a few kms away and its a lovely trek specially in this season when its surrounded by clouds, think green vegetation all around and dotted with a few waterfalls. Do remember to carry your raincoats (we got some from near the Malwali station and they lasted only for the trek) . Sorry I do not remember the distance but its a few kms and you would be so engrossed in the surroundings that it would never trouble you.

Alternatively , in case you are fine with a local, catch one for Lonavala and get down at Malwali. You would get autos to the village ,which is a few kms from the station and the trek starts from here..

Dont know if its late.. but still for information for others I am posting.

I jsut went to Lohagad 2 weeks back.

If coming from Mumbai, take the old Mum-Pune highway from Lonavala towards Pune. Just 5-10 kms after, you will find a right turn towards Malwali station. Take the small road and you will encounter the railway crossing. After crossing the rail tracks, the road will straightway lead to the base village which has a proper paid parking facility.

If you have a SUV/MUV anything having good ground clearance, you can even make it to the top of the mountain just before the steps of the fort start. But the ride is really rough and there are quite a few hairpin bends, so driver has to be expensive. Its the road upon which many trekkers choose to walk upon so expect many people of the road itself.

Preferably visit ealy mornings to avoid rush. Its much better to visit on Satruday. Sunday afternoons and evenings are very crowded especially on account of 2 waterfalls half a km from the parking lot..

The journey is more important than the end or the beginning
