Hi,

I have been doing extensive research on all available cars in 4-6 L since past 3-4 months, since this is my first car. I was left with Swift and Figo. Swift is well-proven car with FE of 21 Kmpl & still didn't lose its charm in the market. Swift has got good resale-value, claimed low-cost maintenance & spare-parts. Initially when I found Ford-Figo, I was really shocked to see the price of diesel-car with such a brand name (FORD) and hell-lot of features. Since Swift doesn't come with features (MP3-player, remote central-locking ) & on-road price is 40K more than Figo. For MP3-player, it'll cost another 20K extra). Overall price-difference between Figo and swift was around 60K.

Since I liked Figo a looot and my heart said go with Figo. I went ahead and booked Figo-ZXI 1.4 (Sea Grey). Total On-road-price in Hyd is: 5.93 Lacs (with 12% Road-tax). The initial price-difference will pay me off the difference in maintenance-cost (incase if it is there). Finally!! On June 16th I got my "Figo"- ZXI 1.4 Diesel Sea-Grey, with black-dash board. Waiting time was around 15-days.

For Figo-ZXI please don't take any accessories other than Body-Cover, unless you want to go for Alloy-Wheels. I got Puncture-Kit for 1300, but if I got the same thing outside, I would have got it for 300-400. I got the Seat-covers outside for 3200 (Showroom-Price 8000) and Door-Moulding Kit. for 850 (Showroom-Price 2000). Sun-Film for 3500 (with 55% Heat-reduction).

I drove it for ~1000KM. I liked it a loooooot.
Pros:
1. Plenty of Boot-Space, Looks like Semi-Sedan, Very spacious interiors. Side view gives you very nice feel about the legth of the car.
2. Decent Exteriors with Chrome-finishing on Radiator, Body-colored Door-handles & Side-Mirrors And Wheel-covers
3. Driving-Visibility is Superb!
4. Very steady at > 100KMPH,  very-light steering, Smooth Gear-shifting, Hardly noticed Engine-Noise even at > 90KMPH
5. MP3-player is awesome with all 4-speakers fitted into Doors, Bluetooth-feature of MP3 player is rocking,
6. Solidly-built Body,  Can clearly distinguishable with its competitors Swift.  Doors are really Solid and Interiors are  made of good quality-plastics and looks decent than Swift for sure.

After driving the Car, I came to know Why Ford-Cars are Driver-Friendly. It is absolutely true and I enjoy a looooooot driving this Car. previously I drove Swift, Waganor.

Cons: Most of you might know these things already. But just for the sake of completeness.
1. No Rear-power Windows and Can be be opened only upto 60%. But with AC, you hardly open the Rear-windows. Its fine.
2. Indicator on Left-Side. Since this is my first-car, Iam OK.
3. Bonnet-Open Lever is on Front-Passenger side. But this gets deactivated (can't be opened) automatically once engine speed goes over 7KMPH, when drive-away central-lock happens.
4. No 60:40 Rear-Seat Split. But you rarely use this feature. You can completely close Rear-Seat.
5. No Tilt-Steering. Can't be included with this Price-tag.

Finally there are no real cons as of now with looks and feel for one week driving. But after one month I will be able to find, if there are any real draw-backs with Engine-performance, Fuel-Efficiency and other things. I'll post updates soon.

Total Cost of Service Maintenance for 1,00,000 KM (10 years) comparison for Figo, Swift, Indica-Vista:

Figo - 30932 Swift - 39423 Vista- 36898

Cost includes Parts and Labor Charges. I have a photo-graph showing the break-up for each service-cost.I wanted to post snaps of my car on first-day. I couldn't find a way to post them.

ford figo is a nice car .....but dude in america ford company is now making bad parts.........i saw an american report and many people are having problem in the shockers , suspension and gears....i dont know the part name exactly but out 1000 cars( diff models of ford ) are havin problem...they said that the rear shocker just broke into two equal pcs while driving...some people say that they were driving at about 120 miles and suddenly there car start shaking and they met with an accident..

i hope u can understand now that ford is not the company which can compete other cars...the basic thing is that the spares are toooooooooo costly.......my friend bought a 2005 ford ikon 1.8 petrol, driven only 20000 kms in just Rs 70000.......the car is like new.....

Y the hell any one will sell at too low cost ?? the car is not accidental, engine is fine, shockers suspension are ok,stearing working fine ??? i found something fishy and now i just got to know that the piston and valves of that car is not working properly.....the ford people will take a huge amount of money to make that like before...the amount is just a little less then what we have spent........thats y i ll never prefer ford to any one cuz a five year old car driven just 20000 kms can show this stupid troulble...

my friend i m giving u my all best wishes with ur new car,,,hope it will not give any trouble......take extended warranty also.......

centaur, Thanks for your comments. es!! I'll introduce to memebers. Can you please tell me how can I post images. I tried doing it with "Insert/Edit image", but its prompting me for image URL. When I gave local hard-drive's path, image is not getting attached. It should be as simple as, just browsing for file and attaching image...right?

sunny99, All spare parts (of Figo atleast) are being manufacutred in Chennai,India. So cost has come down significantly. Defects in some new cars could happen even with other brands toooo. You might have read in news about Maruti A-Star. More than 50% of the A-Star cars were called back.

FYI, Figo comes with well proven Fiesta-Engine. TeamBhp people did a test-Drive with Figo for 16-20 hours a day during testing & drove around 3 lakh kms in one of the prototypes, We did get regular servicing done up & the engine did not show any sign of wear on the 3 lakh km prototype, so i guess if you get servicing regularly, it will last you for more than 3 lakh kms atleast without any engine work

I hope this answers your concerns

I am planning to buy a car in three months. I am looking for a diesel engine. I have three options---Maruthi swift, Ford figo and fiat punto. Let me know which would be the best choice in terms of performance of the vehicle( running cost), after sales service and resale value. My budget will be around 5.5L

WHat you can do is create an album in your profile, upload the pics there and then post it here. You can create an album by going to My Carwale tab on the home page. Once you upload the pick you can get the URL for the pic by right clicking on it and then paste the URL in insert box. Hope this helps.

@Sunny - Ikon was infamously famous for the high cost of its spares. At that point of time when the 1.8 and 1.6 were available for purchase the spares were imported and hence the higher price. But having realised the problem Ford started manufacturing it locally and the prices came down. The successfully running fiesta and now the figo is a very good proof of it

Sooraj Welcome to carwale. You have posted the query in the wrong section. New car queries should be asked in the buying a car section. I suppose the mods should be able to move the post

Of the three options you mention the swift would be the best one for your requirements. Maruti has the best A.S.S network in India and so service outlets would not be a problem. Resale value for Swift would again be higher since maintenance is not that high and the advantage of the A.S.S. Swift and Punto have the same engine but the punto is heavier than the swift which makes the swift faster of the starting mark. However the Punto has good ride quality and stability and can handle corners well. The interiors are also very good. The only area where punto would fall behind is the pickup/acceleration and the resale because of the past experience people have had with FIAT. The figo competes on price and you could get a completely loaded model for the second level variant of the punto and the swift (almost). But it is spacious and has a decent performance. Resale again would not be very great though not very low either. On the whole I would suggest the swift as it fits each and every requirement of yours.

Hi Sridhar, Manish

Thanks for your comments and instructions on uploading pics.

Sridhar, I followed your instructions and created a album & tried to use the same link to attach the pics here. But still not getting attached. Anyway here is the link for my album

Manish,

I haven't checked milage yet in a proper manner. Distance To Empty (DTE) feature of Car shows only 12KMPL, which is not correct. Once I check the milage, I'll keep posting about the updates.

the sticker on the car says Modi Ford. Did you take it from the Punjagutta outlet?
