Hi Satish,

Insurance companies are always on the lookout for new ways to connect with their customers. Apart from directly contacting customers they also tie up with car dealers to sell policies. This not only gets them business but also makes it easier for the customer to look for an insurance option. However we must opt for a plan that matches our usage pattern and the possible mileage received from the car. I have heard of this new plan by Future Generali where your premiums are set based on these factors. I'm planning to check it out today for my Alto.

If the insurance company has tie up with the service centre you usually service, it would be handy during claims.

Certain insurance companies are offering cover for plastic, glass etc. Do check it out.

Call up all the major insurance agents for a quote. Car dealers always say 60% higher initially and says that they will give us 50% discount and so. Do check with National Insurance.

For my ANHC, dealer initially told 27K and they will give 10K discount. But when I asked local insurance agents the rate they quoted were around the same 17K!

'Bargain' - Thats the single point mantra!

I love my car. But I won't say it is the best in its class.

I had the same dilemma: to buy insurance from dealer or outside. The path I took is shown in this thread and might just help fellow readers.

I think you can look for an insurance the moment you think about buyng your car itslef. You can get quotes at auto.indiamart.com, www.PolicyBazaar.com, www.icicilombard.com, www.InsurancePandit.com etc & many other sites (I see some sites' ads on the forum itself)

I had this problem and I negotiated with the dealer, who agreed to match the quote given from outside

"Usually dealers have tie-ups with specific insurance companies and they would suggest you pick one from those only. Sometimes it may prove beneficial for you and sometimes not. When it comes to insurance, different types of schemes may prove beneficial for different individuals. So I would suggest you to consult an insurance advisory service provider which will give unbiased suggestion based on your profile.

One such reputed firm which I know of is GEPL Capital. They have a qualified, trained and experienced team of IRDA certified insurance professionals who evaluate individual needs and help people identify the most competitively priced insurance from highly rated companies"
