Its old news but it will always be like a new news for Actor Kota Srinivas Rao as he had lost his Son on Sunday. His son was travelling on a 600cc bike when a truck hit and he died on the spot here in Hyderabad.

My condolences for him and his bereaved family. May his soul RIP

He is a very famous actor, acted as comedian and also as villian, in Hindi and telugu.

Sehwag tutors Delhiites on traffic rules for Games

New Delhi, June 22 (IANS) The next time you tune into an FM channel, don't be surprised to hear Virender Sehwag asking you to drive safely. The ace batsman has been roped in by the Delhi Traffic Police to help make Delhiites aware about traffic rules ahead of the Commonwealth Games.

'Please follow traffic rules, stick to your lane', Sehwag's voice plays in between popular songs on FM channels.

The Delhi Traffic Police has roped in Sehwag to endorse its traffic awareness campaign.

'Sehwag has joined the project in educating people on traffic sense. We expect it to have an impact and people will become responsible in the coming months. We hope to get more celebrities,' Ajay Chadha, special commissioner of police (Traffic), told IANS.

Sehwag in his messages also urges people to stick to lanes, obey traffic rules - to make Delhi a safe traffic place.

Apart from the awareness campaign, the traffic police is spreading its safe traffic message through social networking sites Facebook and Twitter. Delhi Traffic Police has a profile on the two sites, which is visited by many people.

'We have more than 6,600 followers on Facebook now. By the time the games (CWG) commence, we are expecting around 20,000 followers. We think that by opening a dialogue with people, things can work more effectively and swiftly,' he said.

With the success of its outreach programme, the traffic police is to take up other initiatives too like educating drivers about lane management.

'In the coming weeks, we will launch drives to educate drivers on lane management for the Games lane,' he said, referring to a dedicated lane that will be in use during the Games to transport athletes and officials.

'Similar drives to enforce lane driving, especially for giving way to emergency vehicles, will also be launched,' Chadha said.

Asked how it feels to manage the traffic situation in Delhi, Chadha said: 'It is a challenging task to manage the traffic situation. My efforts are on and I hope to see some definite changes in the times to come.'

Hi All,

Quickly went through some of the post and wanted to share my insights and experiences

In most cases we don't recognize pedestrian and cyclist's right to safe usage of road space. Having said this, we don't have seperate walkways, cycle treks in first place, secondly even if they are there for the sake of being there or to follow some of the supereme coutry rulings and international committments. This is example of adhoc planning which not futuristic and often act due knee jerks.

On the contrary, we as an citizens are also responsible for this sorry state of affair, irrespective of cycle, auto, car, truck and buses to name few and often flaunt traffic rules and regulations and pay (bribe) to save trouble of going to court for challan once caught by cops.

It is mix of state's failure on planning and implementation, citizens attitude, and yes once behind the wheel auto drivers drive as if there is not going to be another day and bikers drive with white scarf (read Cafon) on head (pun intended) and generally are nasty on car bumpers. Bikers take bumper work literarily and bump into them at every signal (utilizing the purpose of bumper) and have given dealers to come up with Zero depreciation schemes

Delhi traffic is little better and feel not because people are disciplined but there are dividers everywhere and police is present on most of signals and enter car number before you could get out of car so have to pay fine on the spot (I feel this is better for Janta nahi main kaun hu or mera baap kaun hai).

Pedestrian also responsible the way other are, hence can conclude that its our society as a whole including state is responsible for the way we behave on road.

Same Indian in US or EU on top of his behaviour in any situation be cycle (will wear helmate, tail light at back on back pack), will drive car with seat belt, not jump signal and no Honk but back home same to old ways. These are based on my personal experiences.

NOTE: I am not blaming anyone but these are some of the blunt hard facts which are hard to digest

You are spot on with your observations. Problem is in India we have scant regard for fellow Indians - due to whatever root causes. Bottomline is that every one thinks of his/her own, be it a driver or a pedestrian. Each moves as if it is the other's responsibility to look out (at least till the last moment!).

As a pedestrian has any car ever stopped upon seeing you trying to cross the road, even on a zebra crossing? As a driver have you seen any pedestrian ever think twice before crossing the road at places they're not supposed to (since there is no zebra crossing)? The YESes will be rare relative to the NOs!

One line  - when driving your car/bike your parking space is empty, why not utilize it for parking your ego before going for a drive/ride.

No offence ment to any one. Just a feeling of mine seeing few people driving more on ego on road than their vehicle.

Rohit and Anshu,

Guys I agree fully, even sometime I behave in the manner but not always and most of us fall prey to rudebehaviour towards our fellow road users be it cyclist, pedestrian, biker or car owner.

I fully agree with brandoo & rohit that the problem is of our society and the sad part is that when the same people go abroad they become most obidient followers of the traffic rules instantly.

Well said Anshu.

When I drive my Car / bike - Normally I keep on left side of the road, allowing faster vehicles to move on. But occasionally when I go in right lane and someone honks on me for the side, I simply look in the mirrors trying to guess what make / model the vehicle is. When I finds its a bigger Car than mine (1.2L) then says myself - It's a bigger vehicle and ought to go faster than me. If its a smaller vehicle (even Nano!!!) then I actually says to myself - 'Yeh toh bachcha hain, jane doWink
