yesterday while my car was parked in a lonely spot, some stupid brainless biker or scooter driver rammed against my car's rear left tyre and damged the alloy wheel and its nut cap. Three deep scatches are clearly visible and the  nut cap too is damaged.

Anyone here got his/her car's alloy wheels repaired/painted in case of such damage? I obvioulsy will be replacing thee damaged alloy with the spare one, but wanted to now if the damage can be repaired or is it advisable?

My sympathies. Frown  They should check for brains, when issuing a two wheeler license. Probably they should demand that one spare should be available, just in case.

But take a chill pill, and avoid raising your BP over the issue.

Cosmetic damage can be repaired, but structural damage is not advised to be repaired.

Alloys are generally brittle, and reworked alloys will not have same strength, and are too dangerous to be used. Would recommend replacement, if the damage is structural/functional.

Chrome alloys are more difficult to deal with, whereas powder coated would just need to be re-painted, like any other metal part.

A pic of the wheel would make it easier to suggest remedies.

Krishna ji,

Thanks for the reply There's no structural damage on the rim. Some two wheeler scraped against the wheel leaving three deepish scratches(the silver paint has come off and I can see what looks like three cuts) and cracked wheel nut cap. I tried taking a photograph, but the scratches are not showing up properly in the photo. I am going to try to speak to the dealership for its repair/painting and a new wheel nut cap.

Try balancing the damaged alloy wheel. If the balancing goes through, you can continue to use it. Otherwise keep it as spare and use it only in emergencies (e.g. if you have a puncture in one of your other tyres.

One importatnt point which I forgot to mention in my previous post. Get the wheel alignment checked, regardless of whether you are using the damaged wheel. There is a possibility of misalignment whenever your wheel takes a hit (accidents, large potholes, kerbs).

I have spoken to a friend in Junagadh,  and he says it can repaired/repainted and be made as good as new. The wheel nut cap too has got bad scratches, has cracked badly and will have to replaced with a new one. Shall be sending the rim for repairs soon as a friend is going to get his car serviced there soon. Here's the pic. Scratches are marked in the pic and are worse than what they look in the pic, what i noticed much later was that the stupid buffoon even hit the bumper and scratched it as well Yell.
