Hey Alok,

Aren't there any positives at all in this car from your point of view? This is more than an honest review. If a person is looking at buying this car, your review can just put him off for a moment! Please do mention the good things that you found in the car. The way you have put it, there is absolutely no point in going in for the brand VW if one is buying this car. Is there?

Cheers!

Wow! talk about an unfair review! Alok, dude... whats the real reason for posting this man??

I've been to the VW showroom (Mumbai, near Siddhivinayak temple) a couple of times for checking out the polo. I was impressed by the car, to say the least.

First off, please mention which variant of the Polo you drove. Not all variants have all features, you know.. and this stands good for all car makers.

Here are some of the things i thought were amazing about the Polo

  1. The build quality! Wow! The doors close so securely, almost like a plane!
  2. Interiors are really really comfortable
  3. Adjustable angle for the steering? WTF?! When did they start giving that in a sub 5L car?
  4. Handling... amazing. Felt very secure in the cabin - guess this is again due to the build quality.
  5. Pickup etc. seemed good
  6. Sales - of course depends on the salesman. The one who attended to me (same guy twice... he knew i had come before... but he was polite) was very nice indeed. Patient. I'm sure a company like VW - The VW - pays a lot of attention to training their staff etc. So an impolite salesman seems more like an exception than a rule.

I'm usually a lurker on the forums, just checking out the reviews. Every time i see something so obviously unfair and 'motivated' i cringe. Thought it was time to come and finally make an account ;)

dear puneeth,

what i have mentioned is what i have seen lacking in the vw service & its product ie polo 1.2 highline P. the features which r present r mentioned in the specifications. in spec we get all the positive points only & NO NEGATIVE POINT..the reason i have written the review is what i have found lacking in a car of this stantard ie the VW so that a buyer can get to know these negative points which i have seen which may not be negative to you but r not mentioned in the manual or spec of VW POLO 1.2.

by the way i have another german car with me..ie opel corsa 1.4 P which came with a lesser price tag than polo 1.2.

a buyer should be aware of all tha good points & the BAD POINTS TOO b4 buying anything. the good points r mentioned everywhere but its the BAD POINTS which r not mentioned in the product manual. the buyer can himself judge which bad points r to be ignored if at all.

VW is Brand name which is a benchmark but if there is anything that seems lacking ..i guess it needs to be mentioned. the polo mark 5 same as this is much better in europe. we should not expect vw to cut costs for say..vanity mirror...3 cyl engine....horn...hard steering wheel...& above all the pre sales...sales...post sales service. the costs of spares r not mentioned anywhere nor do the exec tell ??? the curb weight....which indicates the solidity of the vehicle ??the mileage on highway !! in city ???

the spare wheel of 14" ???? the jack & spanner without proper cover ??? this should not be the way VW should let the product out of the factory.

the sales exec should know about the pros & give proper answer about the cons 2 esp if it is VW !!!

the opel corsa & i10 i have, maruti 800 & van i started with give me a fair understanding of the cars.

so go see the car...the good points we r paying for & we can see them...some will appretiate some wont but hey may fail to know what is not told or not observed by them. this was the purpose of my review.

thanks for the reply puneeth..they r welcome

dear digamber,

what may sound unfair to u may be very useful to others & vice-versa.  the reason to write this review was to make propective buyers aware of things which r not mentioned anywhere in the manual or specifications.

i drove polo 1.2 highline p the best model available at present !! & IT IS NOT UNDER 5 LAC..IT IS 6.55 LACS !!!! dear digamber. lot of things can be ignored in the trendline model which is under 5 lacs but then lots n lots of things are missing in that under 5 l model. no power windows for back..no ABS..no air bags...n lot of other NO'S

PICK UP IS DEFINATELY WEAK...SO IS THE SHAKING OF CAR WHEN IT STARTS.

THE TRENDLINE MODEL WHICH U R TALKING ABOUT IS UNDER 5 L BUT IS NOT SAFE AT ALL...NO ABS...NO AIR BAGS but a 6.5 L TOP END model should not be lacking a vanity mirror !!! is that a security threat !!! cover for jack & spanner ??? m/b rs 100/- & what will u do with a 14" spare wheel with all other wheels of 15" just go to the punture wala get it mended & put it back in the boot...what in a long drive ???? keep on changing wheels ????

the specs u r talking....we r paying for it & they r not free but what is lacking is also being paid by us but at the cost of the brand VW which should not b the case.

i m open to discussion & willing to change my opinion if a proper answer is given for the things which r lacking

thanks for mail digamber. u r always welcome

alok

1. A STEEL SPARE WHEEL OF 14" WHEN FIXED IN PLACE OF A 15" ALLOY WHEEL WHICH HAS BEEN REMOVED DUE TO A PUNCTURE WILL SURELY CAUSE A DOWNWARD TILT TOWARDS THE 14" WHEEL & IMBALANCE THE CAR & ALTER THE ALIGNMENT ESP IF USED IN THE FRONT. THAT WILL EAT AWAY THE RUBBER OF THE TIRES !!!!

2. THE 15" ALLOY PUNCTURED WHEEL WILL NOT FIT INTO THE SPACE PROVIDED FOR THE 14" SPARE WHEEL IN THE BOOT...SO HOW & WHERE DO VW PROPOSE TO KEEP THE PUNCTURED WHEEL TILL IT IS REPARIED...IF THERE IS LUGGAGE IN THE BOOT !!!!

You have made some really interesting points that one ought to ponder about. I don't know if I have to thank you or not. Coz I had really liked the car and this really changed my opinion. I have to thank you for being an owner of the car and writing such an honest review about it.

The VW New Polo 1.2 petrol is something which Indian market was waiting for . The best part of the vehicle is build quality , fit and finishing and servicing interwals. VW New Polo is coming up with 15,000 Kms servicing interval and first servicing interval is on 15,000 itself. The manufacturing plant is in Pune chakan and aroung 97% parts are manufactured in India Pune . Which means parts are available at economy prices . More for the top end model called Highline it is having 15" alloy wheels with 185 mm width size which helps for off road driving and better ground clearance . Car is having 3 years of colour warranty and 6 years anti-perforation warranty and 2 years warrant from VW with unlimite kms . Isn't it soung good . More it is having 294 lts boot space which is quite bigger than other cars . I found it interesting of gear shifting and driving comfort .....

dear martin

looks u r from the company or with eyes tight shut !!!

please read the whole review...frequency of servicing is immaterial in todays cars !!!

the warranty given in polo mark 5..the same as this indian model,  bought in europe is 12 YRS !!!!!

i would like to know from u the price of say a 15" inch alloy wheel complete with tube & tires !!! ie if the 15" alloy wheel fits in the spare wheel room & i use it as a spare instead of 14"....what is the service network !!! how many service centers r there in the country !!! not even one per state !!! is the company paying to transport the vehicle if there is no service certer near the breakdown area ???

we r not talking about passat...bmw..audi owners..who can leave their vehicle & the driver & continue to travel in another car...we r talking about entry level car which is competing with swift !!! fiat grande punto with tata serrvice centers !!!
