Query for Insurance on CW site resulted in spamming?

I calculated insurance premium for my car on CW tool. As expected it was way off. (NCB not counted, discount not counted). I was expecting a mail or a call from CW, because the form says doing this I agree that I will be contacted by CW for insurance etc.

I did not get a call from CW Insurance for two days. But another curious thing has started happening. ICICI Lombard has started bombarding me with unrelated mails regarding insurance. I am positive about the query/spam relation because I never got anyting of this sort before I did this query on CW.

Does CW share the member's mail address with ICICI Lombard just by querying for insurance? If so, why is there no mention of this in the insurance form? Why is ICIC Lombard spamming me instead of contacting properly on my query?

Can somebody from CW insurance respond on this, as well as my query? (I have just calculated premium, and I suppose that is enough for them to contact me, as both my mail and phone are noted in the form).

Thanks in advance for an early reply on this!

Krishna,

CarWale doesn't share its database with anybody, including ICICI Lombard. I'm 100% confident that there is no possibility of data getting leaked/passed on from CarWale. As I understand this could be because of the fact that your car is due for Insurance and the data is leaked from your previous Insurance provider. It's a co-incidence that you happened to leave your Insurance details on CarWale and you received those spam emails from ICICI Lombard.

On the fact that nobody called you from CarWale, let me talk to the concerned person.

Thanks for the feedback. Appreciate it.

Yeah. You got a point there, Banwariji.

That is a possibility I did not think about. I was too fixated on the coincidence that I put in a request and from that day I started getting those mails.

Sorry for the direct accusation in the first post. Thanks for the nudge to the Insurance department, and waiting for the contact.

Hello Banwariji, Just one follow-up:

Is CW insurance being provided by ICICI Lombard also a coincidence?

I think we work with multiple brands? My car policy has been renewed through CW always and it has been Bajaj Allianz and ICICI Lombard in different cases. I have seen a colleague getting from Chola Mandalam also from CW itself. I'm not completely aware of the brands we are associated with. If you want I can get it confirmed for you?

By the way did you get a quote from us?

Yes, I got a quote. And it was from ICICI Lombard.

It would be great if some of this is explained in detail, because we don't get a clear picture of how things work, especially that part of CW  business that is exposed to the forums. Are there any SLAs etc, for the interaction? Are there any options, like you mentioned just now? How does the service fare in terms of general competitiveness, and reasons thereof.

I think it will be a more pleasant experience for the CW customers of auto insurance, if these factors were clarified through a detailed writeup.

Krishna,

I will try to get you some more info on Insurance front. However, I would like to explain that all these services e.g. auctions, auto insurance, auto finance (mostly transaction based) are in their beta stages, you can call them experiments at best. For example, we may be working with multiple brands in Mumbai for a service but can offer fewer brands in some other cities. There are also chances that we cannot offer a certain service in a particular city. The tie ups done may be on a national, regional or 100% city level.

This is why none of these services have got prominent space on CarWale.com. Something comes in a big way on CarWale.com only if we are sure of its future. Moreover, Insurance as a service in particular is governed very strongly by govt and there are certain technical constraints for disclosing more details on the site, to the public. However, on case to case basis we should be able to explain it. On top of this is the challenge of being on Internet. And not to forget that resources too are limited.

As far as competitiveness etc is concerned, we try to be as competitive as we can, however, there might be a possibility that due to lack of tie-ups in a particular city, even our best offer is not good enough. But by no means should our quote be higher than normal quotes in the market.

This is what I've learnt from what I discussed with CW car sales business head after reading your query yesterday. I may not have grasped everything completely or there may be some technical/factual errors in above explanation.
