The premium fuels i.e. Diesel/Petrol are supposed to have special additives in the normal fuels which help in prohibiting carbon particles from sticking in the engine. How much do they really help has a big question mark, nobody is sure about the answer. Many manufacturers support using premium fuels in their cars while many simply say NO to them. Check-out your manual and follow it. My suggestion is, you use normal Diesel.

It is true that this topic is very subjective, as I understand a Honda dealer disapproves of these premium petrol for its cars, a GM dealer suggests it.

GM even recommends the fuel additives for the petrol

Dear Saroj I had a honda city.I used the premium petrol for almost continous one year in hope of better mileage and pick-up.Intially the car was giving an average of 13km/ltr. when on normal petrol after using the premium the average came down.I made complaint about this to honda.they got my car checked at ghaziabad, the whole silencer was replaced with some parts due to corrosive ( acidic ) nature of the premium petrol.I Landed up with repair cost of Rs.35000.00 and extra cost of premium petrol. From then onwards i never use the premium petrol neither premium diesel. I even asked the skoda people they replied: Dear Rajeev Solanki, We are in the receipt of your below said mail and had noted the contents. We recommend you to use regular Diesel for your vehicle. We do not recommend the use of premium diesel which may contain fuel additives of any kind or so –called “flow improvers” which will result in the damage to the Catalytic Converter in long run. ya right....Even Maruti does not recommend Premium fuel....(atleast for its small cars....can't say abt the current Baleno)

But..whats this mess abot Premium fuels then??...the Indian market is still NOT dominated by the MERC's or the AUDI's or for that matter even GM's.......THen why these mis-leading advertisements abt Extra Mileage... and friction busters etc........  cheap games ppl play just for money !!!

Dear All,

Indian Premium fuels both petrol and diesel  are added with performance additives which are purchased from major oil companies like TOTAL France, Chevron etc. all these additives are tested in a reputed laboratory.

Please note fuel additives never never never harm engine. Even in foreign countries especially in Europe petrol and diesel are marketed with these performance fuel additives.

These might not harm the engine but then they are not doing any good to the same. They are said to improve engine's performance, I tried premium fuel for my car and there was no change whatsoever in any respect. These are also said to increase the fuel efficiency, I never noticed any change and even if it does so in some cases, then let me remind you that we pay more for these fuels, so its even in the end.
