Maruti is going to launch a new Alto with Euro IV engine and is likely to price it around 2 lakh, in the maruti 800 price segment. Now I think this is bad news for existing Alto owners, specially the ones who got their cars a year back. What you all think? How this is going to affect the resale value of Euro III Altos when a stripped down Euro IV Alto is available for 2 lakh only?

The update is basically to do with emission control and does not represent a marked advancement in engine tech.

There is no need for concern regarding resale either as there is no change in engine(as was the case for the Estilo/WR etc) hence the same will remain unaffected.

@Sani- The news papers reports indicate towards that 2 lakh price tag and maruti boss has also confirmed the same. Check last week Zigwheels in timesofindia/economic times. I guess in metros they want this new alto as a replacement for maruti 800.

@trinaonline-I really dont think maruti will scale down the alto any further. Rest assured the prices will not go less than what it now is without shaving engine capacity off.

Again the Alto is going for a engine upgrade into Euro IV. The FE is rumoured to be better than the old one but the resale value isnt going to change much.

The Maruti 800 was manufactured at an astonishing price of Rs 57000/- only if my memory serves me right. Mr Jagdish khattar the then boss of Maruti had reacted to Mr Ratan Tata's declaration of his dream project 'The One Lakh Car-nano' that Maruti doesnt see the one lakh car as a threat. The 800 could be sold at 1 lakh if Maruti wanted.

The reason being mainly because the car was made in a plant (Gurgaon) which was depreciated twice (considering 100% depreciation in 10 years).

Considering this fact, I dont see them reducing prices any further. Its a no competition zone as far as Maruti is concerned..

FE crazy me!

Alto BSIV is launched i think. check www.marutialto.com. Few goodies added, most notable is tubeless tyres in all variants. Not much of a change in price i think.

@Saps - no worries on resale of old Alto
