Hi All,

I am facing some problems with my car listed below:

1. Engine: The engine vibration has gone up and could be felt on the steering and doors. I feel a resonating effect between 1500-2000 rpm and the cabin noise suddenly increases.

2. Steering: The steering is not behaving properly, the handling is not at all good. While going over the rough roads, some rattling noise comes. The engine vibrations are felt on the steering and it is very annoying and uneasy. At times, if feels as if the steering has become loose, I think it is very risky.

3, Clutch: At times, while pressing the clutch during gear shift, the RPM goes upto 1500-2000 suddenly. The clutch adjustment is not proper. While releasing the clutch after gear shift, I feel a jerk giving a bad driving experience.

I have raised the complaint with Customer Care and they have asked me to take the car to ASS.

This is one part of te hCustoemr Care which I hate. For any trouble, they just say, take the car to the Service Centre. If it was  easy that, wouldn't the customer have done that already? There was a time when Hyundai Customer Care had qualified individuals who used to guide you as to what the problem is. Now it is being manned a bunch of dumbos who are good for nothing!!!

Hello Suman,

Is your i20 the 2010 model? The service centre where I take my car, claimed that new i20s do not have this problem.

Fitting the urethane pad is just a temporary solutiion. As the car suffers more wear and tear, the sound going to re-appear, make it clear to your dealer.

As for steering rack, I ma no expert, but now I get the feeling that there is a basic engineering & design flaw in the whole steering assembly design. After changing the steering rack, the sound semed to have completely gone, but after the car ran for about 2000kms and as there was more wear and tear, it re-appeared.

Just a thought. Going by the number of people who are affected by this steering noise problem, it makes a good sense from Hyundai to recall the specific models and fix it proactively, rather than being reactive & serving it when some one goes for the problem.

SANDESH Thanx 4 ur reply.

My I20 is 2009 Oct Model.I have allready discussed with my dealer & requested them to change my steering rack instead in using pad.But the walkshop manager told me that 1 week ago Hyundai India delivered  a special greease having high melting power. Also hyundai india technical team visited every dealer walkshop & trained them to use this product instead of earlier one. This grease is  made in Korea. They gave me the assurance that this product will solve my issue.Now.I want to know since you have changed your steering rack, now are you facing the ratling noise. If not then I will also force them to change my steering rack also.

Well, the grease thingie didn't work for me either. The sound has returned to haunt me again!!!! After change of steering rack, the sound was not there for around 2000kms, then it returned again.  When I took the car to the workshop, I was also told about the special transparent grease and it was applied to my car and it was claimed that the older grease wasn't sticking so to speak and that the new grease would eliminate the noise.

The sound was not there for some time and,not surprisingly, it returned again. The new grease isn't working for me either. God only what knows what the engineers are doing in Hyundai to solve the problem. This is so frustrating!!!!!

It is only people like us who are suffering. The company doesn't seem to care. Hyundai has these cliches  -"Caring for you ...always". They should change it to  "Caring for you?.....Never!!!!" and "Always Half the Way" Yell.

I have written a strong mail to the customer Care, but I don't expect anything concrete from them, their stereotype answer would be "take the car to the workshop". A bunch of Morons are manning in the Hyundai Customer Care Yell.

You may try the grease and I wish you have better luck.  Just ask your dealer this question. They are doing this grease application for free till warranty is there. But what after warranty expires? They are surely going to charge for it, eventhough it is Hyundai's fault for designing such a faulty steering assembly (Suzuki manufactures the EPS steering system, but still)!!! Right now they are just shooting arrows in the dark trying to find a solution to this problem.
