Ayush,

It could be from the steering(column/rack) as well. In the i20 whe net char travels over a rough patch of road or goes into a pothole, it too makes a "thud" sound. Besides, how many of the owners really knew what the steering rattle issue was before the whole thing was exposed. People were actually struggling to know what the steering rattle issue was.

I made a video to prove that the steering rattle issue does exist in the i20 and based on that video, many people concurred that they have the same rattle issue in their i20. As I posted on team-bhp before, it actually depends on the driver whether he notices the issue ot not. A while back, I drove a 2010 i20 and a 2011 i20, both of them had the same steering rattle issue(in the 2011 model, it was less because it was new vehicle), their respective owners were happily believing that it was normal and thought it wasn't the much feared steering rattle issue.

The new ugly looking Verna has the similar type of steering design. While it hasn't been concreterly reported yet, atleast not on the forums, let a Verna clock up around 6000 kms on the odo, lets see then.

Sanchit,

As you are aware, we are fighting the issue legally now. So, obviously I will have to keep the car till whatever time it takes to get a judgement from the court. Apart fom the steering issues, I am also fighting against the good for nothing workshop in Junagadh for its pitiful worksmanship, vengeful damage caused to my car and the issues that car developed because of their negligence.

Harsha's post just sums it all up. You are forced to keep the vehicle. The great people in Hyundai don't realise this. Why can't these jokers stand up to their arrogant Korean masters and take a stand to get this serious issue fixed?

Hi friends,

Have u heard about the doing away with the tilt steering feature in the NextGen models of i10? (http://www.carwale.com/Forums/viewthread-8601.html#post243316)

It is because of the i10's and i20's inherent steering rattling noise issue. This I got to know from 2 guys working at a Hyundai showroom. They said till now not a single steering rattling issue has been reported from the "NextGen" models.

I beleive, after trying to to rectify it with the now notorious quick fix solutions like bushing and fitting yoke spring, greasing with a high viscous grease, and even column replacements, now the cause was attributed to the tilt feature of the steering. Hence they completely removed it in the new models (NextGen), rather than trying to analyze and fix the root cause. Since the sales are still high, they did not bother to rectify the steering design (very few companies bother about ignorant Indian consumers), saving cost and making more n more profit.

Regards,

Anu.

Is it so..??Surprised

I remember a while back watching on some autoshow, hyundai people bragging over tilt steering. As per them even companies like bmw & merc couldnt produce tilt steering that works without clicking or something & hyundai was able to do so.

Now this seems like tight slap on their face.Tongue out

That's not only the trouble I'm facing. I get a very disturbing rattle, and A.S.S claim that it is from brake calipers. It's worst than the steering rattle. Thrice i have got it repaired wuthout any use. I've to visit A.S.S this month and they have promised to fix the issue permanently by placing a 'tire tube' FrownYell

These Hyundai wallahs are the biggest liars in the world. Inspite of knowing fully well that the steering rattles in the i20, they tell that the steering issues have been solved.

Even the Swift and other cars have tilt steering adjust feature, yet the steering  cars don't rattle. Isn't that one more lie that these Hyundai morons are telling? The fact is that their steering design sucks and it is useless. Instead of trying to fix the issue( essentially meaning that it is Hyundai's fault), they blame the road conditions & drivers for the issue. What a bunch of pathetic losers!!!! A case of Ulta chor kotwaal ko daatey.

I too a own an i20 ASTA with 6 speed BS IV. Purchased it on Oct 2010. I am not sure whether i faced the same issue as mentioned above. During initial days of my purchase i experienced a vibration like effect on the steering when i go above 70kmph i reported it to Hyundai service center and they promptly fixed it by installing urethane bush & yoke pad. It got fixed. When my car goes over a hump a noise comes from front a "thud" sound. If i move over the same hump at very very slow speed this doesnt happen. I have driven figo, innova through the same hump but dont hear this sound but in my i 20 i hear that "thud" spund. Reported to Hyundai Service and took the service advisor for a demo and proved it. They did something and the "thud" sound got minimal but after 3 months the sound is back. At service center they are ready to fix by doing some replacements but i am scared to send my car. After seeing all above incidents i feel like i can live with it than messing up the car. They say i have 2 yr warranty so they could try fix it by replacing parts but i am scared to go forward. Please could someone advise?

Well...sorry to disappoint you...but both issues are a very common problem with i20s...n u would have to live with it. The thud sound you are talking about is form the suspension when it goes over a pothole and the other one is the common steering rattle. I had a 2010 asta(o) and had to sell within a year due to the same issues...had done only 6000 kms...so u can imagine how irritated i got in such a short period. Both suspension n steering sucks in this car....evrytime u give it to the service guys...ey would do a "jugaad" n give it back n it'll work for few months n then again back to square one. So you either live with it or sell it....i know selling is not an easy job...i too waited months to get the right price n sold it...n am so relieved though i have incurred a loss but for me peace of mind is more important.

I cant sell the car because if i sell it now i have wait for some time to own another one. I think i will live with it for now. If i ride extra careful on pothole "thud" sound can be avioded i am ok with it. will keep it for another 1 or 2 yr and then will sell it then. My Hyundai service center guys are very kind enough and they are very helpful. when ever i take my car for a small fix they do it and give it back with smile that's why its tempting to give a try but i have gone through different forums where it says that though they try to fix it will be back to square one after few months with scary malfunctions like steering tightness when vehicle is on the move...etc In forums its already i20's image has been spoiled so dont know how the resale will be. Anyway going have perodic service next month will check and update.

Thanks for your suggestion!
