Hi,

I have a very small problem that i am confused about. One of my wheel tyres had developed a bubble in it and for safety sakes i bought a brand new tyre straight away. But the dealer told me that this old tyre is of no use to him. So i have been carrying this extra tyre (6th one)in my car. My problem is that this 6th tyre is of no use to me as it has bubble and also it is occupying unnecessary space in the car.

Can any one tell me where can i sell this tyre for any price instead of throwing it in the garbage. i have heard that people do apply patches and use tyre when they get bubbles. So basically this tyre can be useful to such people rather than me throwing it to garbage.

Even its rim is badly damaged. So again its rim is of no use to me.

So is there any place where i can sell this tyre or should i just throw the tyre and rim in the garbage.

Well the rim can be brought back into shape. And if you can also get the bubble fixed, you may be able to sell it off...

Why is the rim damaged? I get the tyre bubble is due to  a manufacturing defect, and it should have been brought to the attention of the dealer. The tyre company could have bought it back based on the current run, the least it could do.

I guess the Manufacturer buyback is out of question now, as the replacement tyre is already bought and put in service.

Either ways, a local scrap dealer will take the rim by the kilo, and the tyre can be used as a cushion for backing the car into your garage or porch.

My conscience won't allow me to patch the tyre and sell it/ hand it over for somebody to use it. - If it ain't good enough for me, I won't deem it good enough for someone else.

Thanks rohit and krishna for your replies.

There is one point that krishna mentioned and i am unaware of. Please can u all people let me know how does one claim tyre warranty. I have enquired that tyres have a 3 year warranty. If so then i would like to show that wheel to the company(bridgestone) dealers so that they can determine if it is a manufacturing defect. My tyre is in its 3rd year and nearing warranty completion period. Is it possible to do tyre claim and what is its procedure to do it.

Thanks in advance.

The tyre will have a 'designated life', during which, if there is a problem spotted, and the manufacturer made aware of it, through the dealer where we buy the tyre or the original car, The dealer liaisons with the manufacturer, and agrees to give a pro-rata rebate on a new tyre purchase, based on how much the older defective tyre is/ how much it has run. The designated life could as well be the warranty period. So if your tyre had already completed that period, I don't think it is worth investigating it.

You did not tell us yet how the rim got badly damaged.

Thanks krishna. That was very nice information.

Ya my rim got damaged when i took a very sharp turn at high speeds. I was going at high speed and suddenly i had to take a sharp right as there was some construction going on. But while doing that i heard a bumping sound and my car bounced a bit like i had jumped over a speed breaker. May be i hit some big rock that were lying on the road due to construction. After getting out of car i realised the rim has got a major bend and thats how my rim got damaged.

For safety sakes i didnt wait to get the rim repaired. I straight away got a rim from the dealer.

For me the rim is not the concern. maybe as suggested i wil give to some scrap dealer by kilo. But i was confused about the tyre.

One more query Krishna. As these are stock tyres If i give the tyre directly to the company showroom (Bridgestone) do i need to give only tyre or do i need to give everything means tyre and tube and rim as well for getting it inspected for manufacturing defects.

And how much time does it take for inspections from the (bridgestone) tyre company.

If you are planning to claim warranty then yes you will need every thing to show them the impact. otherwise, i guess all 3 are not serving you any more. Sell it off to Kabadiwala and have chole bhature with the amount you get.Cool

Arun, an impact to the extent that the rim got bent beyond repair is likely to cause damage to the tyre. The tyre is not supposed to be 'indestructible'. Only defects that show themselves during normal course of action is covered in warranty.

Bottomline: Forget warranty. They will not help you in this case at all. They need not.

I second Varun on how to proceed! Only difference is, I would suggest Chole Kulche, they are low on oil. Laughing

There are also dedicated used tyre shops and they may be interested in your tyre. Of course they won't pay you a fortune but something is better than nothing. The same guy may also be interested in your rim, if it's repairable.

I don't know your city but for others' information sake, there is this shop called Jasna tyres at Arenza Corner, Sector 17 (on Palm Beach Road) in Vashi who buys and sells used tyres/rims.

Thank you all for your replies. These are really helpful.

@varun and @ krishna. That was a very nice reply which made my mouth water thinking of munching on chole bhature or chote kulche. Well said Tongue out.

@banvari. That was also a very very useful reply. As u rightly mentioned something is better than nothing. I am also from Mumbai so you providing me the shop details gives me a lot of relief as i was searching for these kind of shops and i didnt find any. Please do give such valuable information regularly. They help a lot for people who dont know where to start from.

Will plan to approach this shop in a couple of days and get the tyre traded off. Thanks for the information. Smile.

Carwale really rocks as i feel that you can get the solution for anything and everything that you have in mind. Three cheers for Carwale people. Smile
