Just a thought,

Assigning moderators based of sub-forum category's, like for example "Buying A Car" section will have moderators who are mostly active in that forum and can only edit/moderate contents on this particular forum. There can also be senior moderators which will have access to every given sub-category/section.

This will not only improve the load on our current team of moderators but will also help in proper content management

In a sense, we all are moderators.

All share the responsibility of keeping the common space we use (the forums) clean, neat and tidy, and interesting.

Just that the sweepers have the brooms, and do the dirty work.

You can start by proactively demanding action on stuff like badly formed posts, spam, abusive language, plagiarism, etc. You'll be amazed it is as easy doing it yourself. Just use the triangle next to the 'quote' button, and choose any category. There was another improvement suggestion to put a free-text field for reporting, but looking at the post it is generally clear, as to what is wrong.

For specific cases, where you might feel the need to elaborate context etc, just shoot a PM.

I was doing this stuff for quite some time before I got the badge - just info, I don't want to imply anything by that, except that others should come forward for doing it. Today we see the reported posts page has absolutely NO activity.

The thread is open for further discussion on the topic.

I too second Krishna and I generally follow what he has already pointed above. Its quite obvious - if we try to clean our surroundings, the whole environment eventually gets cleaned. And as a member of forum, we are definitely equally responsible for correcting/reporting any irregularities/issues/concerns/content management in the forum. Even if we do not have moderator tools, we do have facilities to report them to mods so that they can take corrective measure. And I do it whenever necessary.

I guess my message was not conveyed properly, what I meant was to appoint moderators for each category/section which he/she is mostly active in. like for example say Anshu is mostly active in "Audio/Video & Navigation" thread and having knowledge on that specific sector, He can be assigned to mod that particular category only! This can be also termed as Audio/Video & Navigation Mod/expert.

I hope this clears the doubt.

hmm..you need expert rather than mod and he/she should be flagged as expert of that field, the same way mods are flagged. correct?

nice thought...but not sure who will decide and what factors to be considered to declare someone as expert of a particular field I mean, I may be good at something, but still there are few areas in that field which are still not explored sometimes and in that case I wont be called as expert. I hope you understand what I mean.

Its definitely a nice suggestion, but not sure who practical it would be to implement.

Lets wait for others inputs too.

Conduct online test once a month for every category? select the highest scorer? this will also encourage members to participate in forums more.

I second on whatever Krishna has said (not because he is a fellow-Mod), and acknowledge Anshu's post 3.

An expert may not necessarily have a good understanding of the forums and the required maturity & tolerance to conduct/regulate the forums well.

Number of Mods at CW has increased from 1 to the present 4, and will keep increasing as & when required.

Moreover, assigning particular mods to separate sections might lead to some kind of bias after a period of time.

'Section expert' should be avoided as here also the bias aspect would be more significant.

General Moderators are the way to go and will see an increase with the increase in members/participation.

And to add further, if for example, someone becomes mod/expert in the forum, people will always look at him for a good answer, which may not happen all the time. I mean, if whatever he suggested is not the best answer, then obviously the credibility of the person will be at risk. And it would be quite unfair on his part. As per his perspective that is the best, but not with others..hence you can have expert for each section, as such. A general moderation is the best, definitely.

OT (not really): Good contributions never go unnoticed nor do the other qualities of the members.  Members are regarded based overall - knowledge & character.
