Hi!

I have Sonata V6 with 2.7 ltr engine 2005 model & I want to retrofit a CNG Kit.

Is it advisable to fit a CNG Kit on this car? If yes, what all it should have beside the basic kit - lambda, advancer etc?

Can fuel conversion be endorsed on RC?

Regards

DKS

Fuel conversion / CNG retrofitment has to be endorsed in RTO/RC Book & in Insurance Policy too.

On CNG conversion, others will be able to guide you better.  However, would like to mention that approval for CNG kit/retrofitment are car/model specific.  Check for the ones approved for your car.  The retrofitter will also guide you.

Thanks Pankaj!

My preliminary info is that no kit is approved for Sonata and for that matter any of big cars. (for engine cap > 2000 cc)

I want to understand the differences in the kits & this process of approvals of kits – why a kit is approved for one car & not for other, is there any technical reason or it is just the fact that kit supplier has not applied / taken approval for specific car model?

I had a small talk with a kit supplier & he hinted that approval is costly affair so they take approvals only for popular models. In such a scenario it is logical that nobody has the approved kit for bigger cars.
So my next question is – can I as a user/consumer ask for an approval? Who is the approving authority? Is it state specific or approval is for whole of India?

Please let me know what all info is available on this whole process.

That's the prime reason, I understand.

Regarding approval, it's done by Transport Department at state level, as RTOs are state governed.

is there any government/RTO document specifying which models are certified which are not. I believe all the vehicles aged over 8 years are eligible for CNG/LPG conversion. There was some Mumbai High Court directive regarding this issue, not able to find the link.

The above link though gives many models certified for CNG conversion but no authenticity for RTO approval.

If anybody having the RTO document whic specifies the criteria of approval and car models approved for CNG please post it on forum.

Thanks.
