ya it is a bit difficult to source but you can go for the kenwood kac-m845 or kenwood 8404 which is the successor of 8401 and equally good. jbl and kenwood are absolute value for money brands with a very very good sound quality.

Hi Karan & Members,

Sorry for being absent over the last 3-4 days. Karan, i have in the end decided upon this configuration but somehow it is crossing my budget by say close to 1k. The configuration i decided upon:

HU: Pioneer 5250 (Grey Market): 6900/-

Front: JBL 608C Components: 4500/-

Rear: JBL 948: 3700/-

Wiring Kit: 1000/-

Amplifier 2- channel: No idea which is economical & VFM: 1700/-(my estimate)

Total: 16, 100/-

I have decided to power my front components with the amp & rear ones with the HU. Karan & rest kindly comment upon the set- up i have shortlisted & if possible recommend a good VFM 2- channel amp. The accessory dealer has suggested to opt for normal coaxial speakers for front & pioneer tweeters for the front rather than opting for components for front just to bring down the cost factor. Though i am not too convinced with the idea still would want you to comment on this

Hii Rubal

Good to hear from you. Very nice setup you have got there. Go for a complete component speaker set as the crossover(box) provides the separation of high and mid frequencies efficiently and you always get a better sound than using tweeter and coaxial independently.

For the 2 channel amp well at 1700 it will be either a used amp or a very very old model. The cheapest 2 ch amps are from sony but if you can stretch just a bit you should definitely get the JBL GT5 2 ch amp. That amp is a perfect match for the GTO components and the damn thing is small as anything. You should see it to believe it how small it is.

Try not to use the RCA cables from the wiring kit. Try to get good quality able from Scosche or other reputed brands. Should not cost you more than 400 to 500 bucks depending on what length you choose according to the placement of the amp. Whatever may happen try and go to a reputed installer. Spend on good installation specially of the crossovers and the routing of the power and RCA cable from different sides of the car.

Best of Luck

I dont like going the Sony way even if they are cheap. It is better to stretch a bit and get a good one. Scosche RCA cables are good. Get those and you would be all set.

Although many of us or even all of us at some point of time considered a good ICE to be a sony head unit with sony and pioneer speakers. Sony Xplod did have a good run in the Indian market when it was first launched and even now are value for money products for tons of people who want a very very basic setup .. something like what they would get from the showroom when they buy the car.

Sony has just not been able to keep up with other brands as far as quality and sound quality is concerned but it is better a sony xplod than a fake pioneer or alpine/sound barrier amp.

Precisely yes. Sony has not been upto the mark in recent years. I had a Sony ICE in my Santro and it was horrible. It would play MP3 only for an hour before getting heated up and refuse to play. Most of us work only on cost and not on quality. Hence we get convinced when the dealer mentions the word grey market and cheap price. Nowadays you get brands with bill and warranty just as you would buy a LCD TV. So it depends on the individuals risk taking ability.

That's true. It is human tendency to overlook risks when some one mentions lesser price but at the same time to each their own. If Sony is what suits someone;s budget then no harm. A lesser known or quality 'brand' is any day better than cheap unbranded and fake stuff.

@Rubal --- any updates buddy ?

Brother it was originally not my idea. Infact you really helped me out or rather guided me to the best of your abilities. I must rather thank you for the same. Just saw the JBLK GT5- 2 channel amp & yes it is small. I do not know much about its price though. Karan i did mention the prices as quoted by the dealer. So do you have any idea as to whether the prices quoted by him are reasonable or not. Any approximate price for the JBL amp?

In case if i decide to install the components on the rear rather than getting them installed in the front would it offer a better sound quality & in case it does than in that case what should be the configuration for the rear?

And one last but very valid question though i msure nobody can give a sure shot answer for the same. How can we make sure that the speakers the dealer is installing are originals or duplicates. Any way somebody can check for duplicate stuff?

Note: Karan what all prices i mentioned in my previous post were without bill.

Sorry i forgot to mention. I had a word with the Hyundai electrician regarding the installation of audio setup & he is ready to get it done for 500 bucks. However, the dealer is offering the installation free of cost. i am not too sure whom should i opt for. I would the installation done only on the weekend as i do not get time in between. Do you think Hyundai electrician would be better trained to install the audio setup

Hi buddy. Please don't say thanks yaar. It's my pleasure trying to help friends who are equally passionate about music and the equipment. If you're ever in Amritsar you are most welcome to audition my setup.

As for the installation well I would suggest going to a reputed place in the city. Most dealership technicians although can install basic system, I am not sure about their skill in handling installs where amplifier are involved.

For insuring you are getting original speakers you wil have to buy from official dealers/distributors who will give you the speakers with bill and warranty but will cost you more as well. The GT5 2 ch amp costs about 4200 to 4600 depending on the place you get it from with bill and warranty. I am not sure about prices in Chandigarh though. I know that Supreme Audiotek is the distributor for Punjab region and is located in Chandigarh.

Components in rear are not recommended in hatchback and sedans. They are recommended in SUV or MUV. I say this because :

1. The cabin of hatch and sedans are smaller and there are only 2 logical places for placement of tweeter. Either in the rear parcel tray- this would make the sound and music too sharp and uncomfortable for the rear passengers as the tweeter will be close to ear. If you install the tweeter in the door then that would mean cutting a hole in the door panel and also spoil the sound stage for the front passenger/driver as the tweeter will be close to them as well. Stick to 6x9 co-axials in the parcel tray or the stock 6.5" in doors.

2. SUV and MUV like safari or innova have large cabin space and are not affected so much by installing components in rear door.
