Clutch plate gets burnt when someone rides on it(gently) while driving for a long duration of time. I know of a guy who had this nasty habit and he ended up burning the clutch plate, he used to use the clutch pedal as a foot rest while driving!!! In his case , the clutch had failed completely. The fool claimed that while driving he smelt like something was burning but did not heed much attention to it.

Manish, go through this/entire thread/discussion - warranty aspect is also discussed.

one big reason for this could be that the car was driven with teh "hand brake " on

thats what the service centre ppl say !!

Handbrake would affect the brake-liner (not the clutch plate).

friends,

though my dzire is the new k12m series with 1200 cc engine, the insurance policy shows old 1300cc.

the engine no & chassis no. mentioned is correct. will there be any problem due to this if there is any claim in the future. !!

There won't be any problem but getting it rectified is not an issue.  Please ask the agent or insurance company or the dealer to get it done.
