Jaideep,

It is advised to start the cars (that run on alternate fuel) on petrol because the engine is developed keeping a certain octane number and/or octane range in mind which is available with petrol. The cumbustion properties/characteristics of petrol is different from LPG or CNG. So in order to let the engine settle down well and reach its ideal operating condition it should be ignited with petrol after which the engine can switched over to LPG.

Well understood Ashish. But incase of Duo, this is being done automatically by the auto switch and whereas with other vehicles/models where the lpg kit was installed seperately this exercise needs to be manually done.

Or is it that it should be a standard practise of manually petrol start & then switch to lpg - for all vehicles including Duo?

Jaideep,

Maruti has provided an auto mode in the Wagon-R wherein the switch to LPG happens on its own reading the engine characteristics. With the after-market kits, you may not get this and will have to do the switch manually. There are some kits which offer auto mode too, but you will have to search for it hard!

all mpfi cars .....(all cars mfd after 2000 r compulsarily mpfi) ... r  fitted with th auto conversion system by th use of a device called th emulator whereby th car always starts on petrol every time u start it ....... n converts to lpg immediately on its own

in mumbai at least ........... nobody has to look hard ... or for that matter even look for this auto device ...................... if ur car is mpfi .... this auto system is installed compulsarily even without ur knoing it or asking for it..... irrespective of where u fit ( barring under th tree garages of coz)

non mpfi cars ... that is th earlier ... carbo cars ..... cannot b fit with auto system at all

Amit,

Your dissatisfaction now is of no use. You might have surely test driven the car. If not then atleast you should have read the blogs.

Regarding fuel tank capacity, if you might have read the manual, actually the tank capacity is 28 liters. Also it says that you will be able to fill max upto 22liters. If you are not able to fill even this much, it all has to do with the fuel characteristic i.e. lpg. What is the exact reason maybe Ashish or Vidur can reply.

FYI, after I drove on highway and emptied the tank - I could fill 23.1 liters. Whereas after city driving here in Mumbai, I am able to fill 20+ liters only.

LPG's density changes with ambient temperature and pressure hence you will get more volume of LPG in the cylinder during that time of the day when the temperature is lower with high ambient pressure than you would during afternoons when the temperature is higher and the pressure is lower.
Also, another important thing to be considered is the actual content (hence pressure) of the pump's tank. Lesser LPG content in the pump's tank will correspond to lesser LPG volume going into the car's cylinder.
To add to this, different filling pumps have different cut-off pressures, so this might also lead to lesser LPG going into your car's cylinder.

One advice here, make sure that the car is standing on a level ground while filling up.
