Ashish,

Do you think the authorised service station might have already checked the solenoid valve in the first servicing. If not, then I should insist upon them for the same! Right?

So according to you, after the lpg goes in the vaporiser unit properly, even on city driving I should be able to get better mileage? Atleast 11 kmpl.

y a..i m sure u shud be gettin that much.... get the Gas filter cleaned too....it requires cleaning more frequently wen the car is new...because the black paint inside the toroidal tank mite affect the filter... also make sure ur Vacumm pipe is in good shape.. cheers... the Valve which Ashish is talking abt the changeover valve...... its got ntn to do wid the MPFI engine... well.. i m in Delhi ..n ppl here normally get 12-14.Depends on traffic....

1. sreemoye ...... cars shud not giv less avg on ptrol .... merely coz .. they r dual fuel ..... unless ur mechanic has unnecessarily changed sum petrol settings

2. sreemoye .......mpfi cars like th duo do not run only on lpg .....they r designed to start always on petrol ... so th q of adverse effect does not arise ....

3. karan ....... has th maruti co recomended that th duo shud b turned off on petrol mode only ..?

4. shrikant ....... most duo owners i hv met at pumps at mumbai hv reported av of 8-9 in ac

5. shrikant .............some servicing might help ... but changing to a better kit wud definitely help

6. jaideep  ....... no repurcussions per se ........even if u use automode for life

7.jaidep ... it is improbable ur av will increase ,,,,normally it wl only decrease with running

Vidhur,

I hope you have asked averages of Mumbai Duo owners who have been using for quite a few months. In which case I should better not expect more than 9kmpl in Mumbai city. FYI, I got 13.5 kmpl on highway.

If Karan is getting 13-14 in Delhi that is because the road network & traffic is far better. I have travelled in Delhi where I could see the change Sheila Dikshit has made in the roads after reducing traffic signals.

Normally, people installing lpg kit in their petrol cars are advised by the installation company that they should always start their cars in petrol & after 1-2 kms can switch to lpg. Why? I do not know - maybe Ashish can throw some light on this?

My dealer never asked me to do any such exercise with my Duo. He asked me to simply keep in lpg mode, if I want to run only in lpg. The machine will take care of when to go in auto mode & when in lpg.

Jaideep,

It is advised to start the cars (that run on alternate fuel) on petrol because the engine is developed keeping a certain octane number and/or octane range in mind which is available with petrol. The cumbustion properties/characteristics of petrol is different from LPG or CNG. So in order to let the engine settle down well and reach its ideal operating condition it should be ignited with petrol after which the engine can switched over to LPG.
