Hi, I want to buy a mid-size sedan. Howz Fiat Petra Petrol 1.6. I heard mileage is good. How about the maintenance costs? In this budget, can you suggest other cars that are better than this in terms of fuel efficiency and low maintenance costs.?

Dear Sam, Fiat Petra 1.6 is not a fuel efficient car, its mileage is less than 10 kmpl in city. Advantages with this car are its price and engine performance. You can find just Maruti Esteem in this budget but Maruti Esteem is far better car than Petra in terms of fuel economy, maintenance, after-sales-services and resale.

Thanks for your reply! I test drive Maruti Esteem and don't feel comfortable with it. I am looking for a car which gives good mileage, has low maintenance costs, good after-sales-service, and comfortable interiors. Getting in/out of car should not be a problem as all in our family are tall and fat. I discard Esteem only becoz of this problem. And also I am a person who will not think of resale, if the car is not troublesome. So based on the above parameters, pls advice on cars/brands which are going to be in the market for atleast 3 or 4 yrs.

Sam, Tata Indigo (diesel) can be an option in the same budget then. Car is very much spacious, good at fuel economy and comforts etc. In long run, there are some maintenance issues though but car can be considered. There is no other option, you will have to increase your budget if you don't like Indigo either.
