Well, during the National Meet, I did chat up with Banwari about having some off-the-shelf packages for forum, but he is against it. This is because the flexibility that he has using the home grown software is lost when using standard packages, and the package maintainer decides what can be done, and what cannot. Moreover, I suppose Forums are not 'the' focus area of CW, they are 'a' focus area, so not moving to latest release of one of those off-the-shelf package would leave the forum vulnerable because of the deficiencies in it.

PS: Even if there is a decision to move, migration will be a headache, as the backend will be as different as chalk from cheese. And we are not looking at some trivial amount of data here.

Well I'm not talking of moving to another forum package - just mentioned PhPBB as an example. IMO this feature is not at all a hard thing to implement - I guess it can be done in less than a week's time. It is only a matter of determining if a logged in user has posted in that thread or not when the thread list is populated from the database (can be a single function which checks this - returns true/false based on which the icon is shown/hidden) .

Rohit,

I completely understood what you are asking for and I think it makes sense. I will have a look at some PHPBB forum software and figure out the exact way of implementing it.

Krishna,

You have said it, it's not possible at all, especially at this stage, to move to a new software. Moreover, I'm personally against it for mentioned reasons to you. But I will try my level best not to give the community a feeling that the community is not in focus of CarWale.

CarWale Android App is launched. Download by searching for CarWale in Android Market on your phone or using this link: https://market.android.com/details?id=com.carwale

Well Ban,

This is an DIY audio forum where I am very much active, and it uses phpBB: http://sound.westhost.com/phpBB2/index.php

Please register here and post any query or reply. You will see that for the threads in which you have posted the thread's icon changes.

Banwari, can the existing platform/data/program, based on which the option of 'Subscribe to this thread' is displayed / not displayed, be used?  Please see post 6.
