My only worry (and Pankaj's too, I guess) would be a deluge of spammers selling anything from diesel engine parts to escort services and holiday packages. If this can be taken care, I have no objections too.

Also maybe it is time to implement the double opt-in to verify the new member's credentials, as all this info will go to some email address, and it is better the email ID owner acknowledges through a link sent to the ID - A positive identification in the form of mail ID will help avoid fly-by-night operators, who spray spam and vanish.

Very nice idea.  But as Krishna said, big chance for spammers.  So first, we have to think about to control spammers. I think it is not that much difficult.  in my opinion, this section should not be the part of forum. it should be come under main menu like Buycar/Sellcar/insurance etc.

Here I would team-up with Krishna against the 2 big Bs (Banwari & Binoy). Lol Laughing

Jokes apart, none of us would have any reservation if GENUINE members of the forums/community benefit from 'trading' or from anything for that matter.  But how much are the members losing in absence of ‘trading’?  The benefit aspect sounds good but keeping non-genuine members away is not an easy task to accomplish (none of the Mods are available 24X7).  Not that I/we want to shy away from the challenges it may pose - but the question is, is it worth all the trouble?

Anyway, let's give a try.  I would be too happy if my apprehensions turn wrong.

More/instant powers (tools) that Mods are going to be equipped with soon, will be of a great help in keeping non-genuine members/spammers away (instantly).

But let’s do one thing - introduce the 'double opt-in' proposed by Krishna to verify the credentials of members registering in the forums - FIRST.  'Trading' can wait till then (what's the hurry?).  After all, 'double opt-in' is the need of the hour even otherwise (it was proposed once earlier too).

Krishna/Pankaj,

I feel if we make the eligibility for posting in Market Place as 50 posts, there won't be any spammers out here. We can also impose another condition, that is, the person should have registered at least 30 days before posting his ad. This way we get 50 posts and around 30 days to figure out whether he is a spammer or not.

Double opt-in is a nice idea. But it will take a little time to implement.

And, of course there is no hurry. Anyways this section can't be kicked off until we implement more basic features like category specific participation restrictions, not counting the posts in off-topic categories etc.

@nitin, the discussion was more than a year back and since then nothing has been done on this aspect as of now. So there is no section for or place to put your own ADs.

Hope Ban is seeing this and gives some updates on different requests in pipeline.

Nitin/Anshu,

I've thought out some plans for this. Give me a couple of weeks and we introduce this as a Beta thingy. The woriies raised by Krishna and Pankaj were genuine and need to be addressed before anything can be done. But I'm on it. We'll do it.
