Hello Carwales

I have an Alto LX model given by my dad.

Im planning for Manual --> Power steering for the same.

Anybody knows how much would that cost ? and if so will that be safe ?

Regards

It would be quite an expensive affair.  It is not advisable, as the workmanship/performance - howsoever good - will not match with company's.

As such, the same is not required in small cars like Alto/M800 as much as in bigger cars.

not worth the effort. alto is a light car & you would barely feel a diff between manual & EPS.

so do not spend so much !!

good luck

What Pankaj says is correct, however once I enquired for my sister's alto lx and the fellow told the cost as around 3-5k. It was in Bhilai, chattisgarh.

PS pump alone would cost approx. 4-5K.  PS assembly will cost approx. 20-25K.  The total expenses, as I understand, would work out to 30-35K.

Simply not worth it bro! Why waste money where you won't even know the difference between PS and manual? Afterall, it is not a truck or something that an able bodied young man like you won't be able to manage. Besides, you won't need wrist and arm exercises Laughing! Gym money saved too!!

i once enquired about this conversion for my Zen 2002 model. The dealer estimated a cost of 25k + for conversion. So it is not worth it!

reading Pankaj and Ripdaman's post it seems I heard wrong.. may be its around 30-50k he might have said It was way back when i had no idea about what is Power Steering. Still my sister asked to enquire and i did... another lesson learnt, quite late..he he he

But I agree with Krishna, in cars like alto and M800s there not much issue without power steering, I drove my sister's alto from Delhi to Bhilai, almost 1500 kms in 29 hrs. And I did not feel any issues in driving the car, however, I had not driven any power steering cars till then. Still, even after driving cars with power steering, I dont feel there is much issue without PS. Its only when the car speed is below 10kmph, above it I guess they both are same, isnt it? Same in the context of feel and turns. Am I correct Krishna?

PS becomes less effective as the speed increases.  It is generally required/helpful in city driving conditions, say upto a speed of 40.

But its not really needed on Alto. I had no PS on M800 5 speed and I never had an issue. You may rather invest the same money on other performance modifications like FFE and K&N air filters etc.
