Hello,

I met with a major accident on the night of 25th - the passengers are all safe but car took a real beating I have comprehensive insurance from NIC and has following question

The IDV of the car is 6.6L but the repair amount is coming to ~4.2L. I wanted to claim total damage but the surveyor told that unless it is > 75% IDV it cannot be done. Any ways I can convince him otherwise? Can I settle for cliam less than IDV (say 5.5 - 6.0L) and hence go for a total loss?

Also the body shop guy said that performance and stability of car wouldn't be same after repair. I'm really concerned about this fact and want to go for total damage. Any experiences of members would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Sunil

Company will not agree for Total Loss.  You can negotiate for Net Loss.  In that case, Company will pay you less than the amount otherwise payable by them for the repairs, and cancel the policy.  You may then choose to get the car repaired on your own - without bill (it will be much cheaper) & sell-off thereafter OR sell the car as scrap without repairs.
