Permanent handles (user names), Private Messaging and more

Guys,

Two much awaited features go live today!

• Permanent user names / handles in the forum: For a while, we have decided to keep the actual names around the handle. Once we are familiar with each others' handles, we will remove actual names (or decide something on this later).
• Private Messaging: People with 100 or more posts will get to access this feature.

Also, as a bonus, everybody gets an easy and permanent profile URL. For example mine is: http://www.carwale.com/community/members/banwari.html

Comments and suggestions are much appreciated. Feel free to report the bugs as well. ;-)

Hi Ban, just noticed that my username has started to appear in all lower-case (it was "Rohit.B.D." earlier and now its "rohit.b.d."). Is there any action to be done on my part to rectify it...?

Now the carwale released another version . Thank you banwarilal.  Private messaging will be verymuch useful. But i didnt get the first idea clearly (handles).  And obviously the profile also.

Probably you chose your user name that way when you were asked to update it. I can see that you chose your user name as 'rohit.b.d.', all small letters! Let me check if I can capitalize it.

Handle or Permanent User Name is a user name chosen by you for all your community related activities. It's the name, you will be known as in the community now onwards. Since your actual name and handle are same, you remain unaffected.

As far as clean URL is concerned, you will have a clean URL (with handle name embedded in it) unlike earlier when it was an unidentifyable number!

Oh ok...in that case please don't change it if its going to affect my login (though I know that logging in done using the registered email).

Banwari, one more doubt.  My posts are showing my "Name". Not username.  If i will change the contact details name, then that particular name is coming in forum posts.  The username is not coming.

One thing i noticed straight away is i can send PM to myself. Is that a bug?

Private Messaging is an excellent tool that we have got. with carwale community becoming bigger and bigger, this will be really handy to discuss the issues within small groups. Permanent profile URL is also a good link to have quick access to others profile and also to tell about yourself.

Now I really need to update this !
